In a Blind thread someone asked this question, why is China not a more popular destination for Indians and why does China need to send so many PHD candidates to the U.S if they have the educational infrastructure that produces so many candidates in the first place

For the Indian portion I'm assuming it's just an easier transition for Indians and other foreigners due to language and cultural barrier
For the 2nd part I have no idea
China also has thousands of graduates that can't find jobs. Those Indian immigrants are gonna make for nice scapegoats once Chinese youth start rebelling.

One of the biggest reasons why the United States became a global superpower in the 20th century is through immigration — namely by drawing in the best and brightest from other countries through immigration. This isn't a nail in the coffin for the U.S., I can't see China embracing diversity to the same extent as we do (Which is saying something), and I also can't see people easily adapting to Chinese culture. Still, this will likely help China narrow the gap between the U.S. for the rest of this century.

Yeah the brain drain started months ago when research grants started getting cut and agencies that give out the grants got gutted. Not just China is recruiting. Pretty much every country that can is doing it.

Basically people who have very specialized skillsets are seeing their funding dry up. Universities from say Switzerland or some other country comes in and says we will fund you to continue your research at our university. Several of these people have taken the offer because why not.

It’s only going to get worse.

I think China will have trouble filling the gap in the short term simply because of language barriers. English is a much more global language than mandarin or Cantonese.

In the long term, if China ascends past the English speaking west for an indefinite period, it’s only natural that Chinese languages will become more dominant as it will be necessary for skilled individuals to learn to work somewhere they can make the biggest impact and probably get paid the best.

Where all the China hawks at?
:mjlol:

China Wants Foreign Scientists. The Public Says No, Thanks.

When the Chinese government announced a new visa to attract young science and technology talent, it advertised the move as another step toward becoming the leading scientific power, one to which people from around the globe would flock.

To many in China, it was a gross mistake.
In the days before and since Oct. 1, when the visa was supposed to come into effect, commenters have accused the government of inviting foreigners to steal jobs from Chinese people, at a time when young people are finding it harder than ever to land work. They have suggested that foreigners are being blindly worshiped, a longstanding national sore point.

Prominent influencers have also stoked nationalism or xenophobia, claiming that China will be overrun by outsiders. After Henry Huiyao Wang, the president of the Center for China and Globalization, a research group in Beijing, praised the new visa, people on social media called him a race traitor, and their posts were shared thousands of times.

Platforms have been especially flooded by racist comments about Indians, after Indian news outlets reported on the Chinese visa as a possible alternative to the highly popular H1-B visa in the United States, which now comes with a $100,000 fee.

China played it smart and didn't allow for unlimited immigration like Europe, US and Canada. They probably knew technology was gonna wipe out millions of jobs. And importing millions more of working age people will lead to unrest.
