There might be fewer of us or we might have access to and be mostly on, other planets.

In 1000 years I expect boundless fusion energy, AI and many health problems will have been resolved.

We might even be able to live much longer.

That's waaay overoptimistic.

Most likely by then the environment is fukked up due to climate change and ecological devastation, and whatever human society is left will probably be some version of the Idiocracy.

I never said anything about size. I’m saying that it’s very awesome force and is not something to be trifled with which is absolutely true. I’m not understanding this “high minded” position your speaking from but I’ll watch the video for shyts and giggles.
.

Gravitational force tails off inversely squared to distance.

The black hole singularity is right in the middle.

There is a region where gravity is increased such that time slows down but also where you are way outside of the event horizon. This effect is there even on Earth (albeit miniscule) due to Earth's gravity.

"Sh*ts and giggles"... What I said is 100% correct as per current scientific consensus.

There is a lot that can be learnt on thecoli. Everyone can take advantage of this in their own specific areas.

Edit: Keep in mind also that this is science. Whatever observations those wiki and YouTube links are talking about still have to actually be scrutinized through experiments.

Anyway here is a nice lecture by Kip Thorne from Caltech

This diagram shows spacetime warping and time-dilation effects on the left-hand scale.

Instead of arguing about stuff that you do not understand why not take the opportunity to learn.

Just stop with the BS and go read up about it.

You "don't like wiki" is just the excuse of people who cannot be bothered to consult the references attached to each article.

I’m gonna watch those videos but again how was that last part BS? Scientists aren’t literally testing their findings so it still has to stand up to scrutiny. Maybe it’s right, maybe it’s wrong. That’s science. But anyways I’ll watch, pardon my doubtful tone tho.

Maybe but I did mention other planets ...

Idiocracy .. Maybe wide-scale but I think the elites will do their best to not let that happen to them.

We know about time-dilation near gravity wells. That has been tested and confirmed on Earth.

We haven't tested with large black holes as far as I know, but to slow down time for a traveller in the region of a black-hole (relative to earth) he doesn't need to travel through a black hole.

We all are moving through space-time at our own (time) rates. The differences are so small that we do not notice them.

This slowing down is based on (relative) gravity and velocity.

This allows for us to use large gravitational sources to slow down our personal time speed.

Vsauce (Michael) is good

This simple method only allows for "forward travel" through time relative to other parts of the universe (including Earth).

The other stuff about going through black-holes to enable faster-than-light travel is not what I was talking about here.

pardon my doubtful tone tho.

It's cool. Sorry as well. Take this rep+.

Right so we are moving so it’s not like one is on a collision course with another

makes me wonder how they even calculate how far one thing is from another

Things that are moving can be on a collision course with each other :dahell: and black holes collide occasionally

It's just extremely rare because the universe is very big and black holes are very small. Same reason stars don't collide very often.

Yea I get it but not things that are light years apart

and I thought black holes have no mass hence it being a hole

it’s not like an asteroid or something

the title is misleading

how is a hole an “object” and how do they know the mass of it if they’ve never been inside or even gotten close

they assume it’s dense. It’s all a theory correct just like “dark matter”?

how is a hole an “object”

(no one said BH's are nothing but "nothing" but to answer your question more directly...)

is a golf hole a thing? does a golf hole have to contain a vacuum to be considered a golf hole?

are conceptual objects things?

answer: the "hole" in "golf hole" refers to the contrast with the surrounding area. as does the "hole" in "black hole".

"hole" does not have to mean "nothing". noun names are not always literal and cannot always be, given that many words have multiple meanings.

how do they know the mass of it if they’ve never been inside or even gotten close

because it emits EM radiation and elicits gravitational effects which can be observed. because it distorts light (well space-time).

they assume it’s dense. It’s all a theory correct just like “dark matter”?

dark matter doesn't interact with EM so that's more guesswork.

we use EM to measure things.

I’m assuming black holes don’t have a “bottom” or end.

The EM radiation could be coming from something completely separate than the black hole
