That only hurts the rental/housing market. It’s real estate investors, corporations or LLC’s that buy out these defaulted properties cash...they have the pockets to evict, renovate and rent higher, flip properties or hold them as short term rentals. The ambivalence toward small time landlords is hilariously off base

In lower income housing situations an increase in eviction rates drives everyone’s quality of living down. Landlord are going to penny pinch and properties are going to deteriorate as work orders don’t get addressed and pest control doesn’t show up. And then that pain will trickle down to the rest of the economy as the vendors who provide services go out of business or can’t pay their creditors.

The government should be stepping with a plan to keep people houses in their current situations and to take the burden off landlords. And it needs to go further than kicking the eviction can down the road.
