No eviction crisis is coming to CA, a tenant would damn near have to attempt to murder their landlord before an eviction could ever be completed in less than 6 months out here :camby:
I'm in MA and its damn near impossible to evict someone already so it doesnt really change much around here but imagine being a small landlord (aka not a corporation) and people keep telling you that you have to house people not related to you for free for months on end while you're forced to eat the losses. Pretty fukking shytty all around.
i feel bad for people getting evicted, but it's not ultimately the responsibility of someone who got off their ass and bought property to continue to house people who arent paying them. it just isnt

liberal states are absolute trash on that issue, they need to come up out of their own coffer to pay for evicted people to relocate if they want to be so empathetic. reading these stories about not being able to evict people who arent paying you is disgusting

The eviction process is not indefinite, eventually tenants get booted out. Now you may feel that it takes too long, but real estate is a business. The possibility of having to deal with the eviction of a no-rent tenant is never zero, so factor that into your business plan :yeshrug:

My landlord hasn't raised the rent on me in 3 years, she knows how hard it is to get great tenants.

MA takes minimum 6 months, average 9-12 months, and in certain cases 18 months before an eviction becomes official. If it goes the full 18 months thats a really tough burden to put on small time landlords, the same people trying to earn a small profit on their rental so they can stay in their own homes..

same out here, even crazier that they extended these crazy eviction protections to owner-occupied duplexes, triplexes and properties with an ADU. you're supposed to just sit in your property with a hostile non-paying tenant for a year while you lose rent and have to come up off thousands to pay for a lawyer? nah

That's crazy.

Lesson there: don't be a landlord in MA :francis:

Or buy your house outright and then rent it out... At least you aren't in danger of losing the house :ehh:

might be time for them to stop buying extra properties and driving up the cost of living...

50% of all landlords only own one rental property :yeshrug:
arithmetic still works. they add up. some parts of america have a housing shortage and the cost of rent is nuts. there will be corrections - they can be painful or properly managed by government, but we dont live in a country that does anything well when it isnt in service of major capital, so these small timers are going to have to hurt, i guess :yeshrug:
