The problem with that logic is it assumes that the three or the layup is always freely available. Sometimes it not. Sometimes you might only have that mid range, so you better work on that sh*t so you have it in your tool box come 3rd and 4th quarter. It’s better to take a two if you have a clear look over a forced three or a layup in a clogged paint.
Well of course, situationally speaking an open middy is a better shot than a contested 3.
But the context is about both shots overall over a large sample size
