Sure the list of failed ventures at Aftermath is staggering but you can expect Jimmy and Dre to set the bar sky-high for the label when its accustomed to Eminem and 50 going platinum in their first week. Anything lower is a failure, why should a label be regressing instead of progressing? Mixed with the fact that Dre wont release anything anyways, Em was going through turmoil and his image was falling, 50's brand was failing and competing with Game....Labels were still A&Ring and developing artists back then and unless it was a surefire success....Aftermath wasnt dropping shyt
Nowadays, artists like Brooklyn, GAGE and Joe Beast would be considered "industry plants". Kendrick came to Aftermath with his own situation and his own brand that was basically ready-to-go. A few cosigns here and there, some exposure here and there etc etc. He had his own sound and his own in-house guys, he just needed a bigger platform
