Nah he probably just said what he meant.

After icons/legends die, people always talk about them at their peak as if they were perceived that way their entire. MJ peaked with Thriller in 1983 and while he was still a megastar afterwards, it was downhill in terms of his quality of music.

In 94, MJ was pretty and hip-hop was taking over. MJ got clowned by regular people all the time for getting nosejobs, bleaching his skin and being suspect. Someone talking negatively about him in a rap song wasn't shocking then. Other rappers had punchlines about him being a child molester.

After people die everyone acts like they were some kind of sacred cow and they were never criticized.
