André 3000 is a man who makes very rare appearances here and there, but each appearance is always worth paying attention to. The last we heard from Dre was the duet “Hello” with Erykah Badu from her recent mixtape But You Cain’t Use My Phone.
Starting tonight (January 6) fans will be able to see and hear a little more from him on ABC’s Emmy-nominated series American Crime. In a recent interview about the series with Billboard, Dre touched on what music he’s been listening to—admitting that Kid Cudi’s Speedin’ Bullet 2 Heaven is “the most recent thing that I think is really great.”
With more focus on his acting career, and a hugely successful Outkast reunion tour last year, many would wonder if André 3000 has any time to record new music on his own these days. Thankfully, the answer is yes. “I still get time to think about music. [Shooting TV and film projects] is not so bad — it kind of puts you in the place where you’re fiending to do music,” said Dre. “I’ve been holding [back] for a long time, so now I’m really interested in figuring out some type of music to do.”
Though he admits he’s “always recording,” he can’t say how soon the public may get to hear what he’s been working on. “I’ve gotten in trouble before for saying when or what is coming, so I like to just kind of let it be,” Dre explained. “I’d like to put out some kind of music project, but we’ll see.”
