“iCarly” actress Jennette McCurdy had some harsh words regarding her brief relationship with Detroit Pistons star Andre Drummond.
During an appearance on comedian Pete Holmes' “You Made It Weird” podcast, McCurdy, 21, described the circumstances behind her brief relationship with Drummond last year, TMZ reports. They began dating last September after Drummond identified McCurdy as his “Woman Crush Wednesday” on Twitter.
However, McCurdy was less than impressed by Drummond’s efforts in the relationship, which she says lasted for “a week.” The “Sam & Cat” star alluded to the fact that she felt pressure to date Drummond due to the relationship’s massive Twitter following.
“I just sort of went for [the first kiss], but it wasn’t great,” McCurdy told Holmes. “It just didn’t go great. No sparks, and the mouths didn’t … the shapes weren’t right.”
“Okay, I’ve gotta see this guy for the next couple of days, we’re already made a lot of plans. I feel like if I get out of it now, it’s gonna be weird. He’s already posted on Twitter, so now everybody knows, so there’s all these people,” she added. “He came back and gave me a really fancy necklace, and like, got down on his knees and asked me to be his girlfriend, and it was just really uncomfortable.”
Curdy went on to say that she “wiggled out” out the relationship by telling Drummond that she had to deal with some issues within her family. “That was something I should have been dealing with anyway,” she said.
But McCurdy wasn’t always so critical of Drummond. Shortly after they began dating, McCurdy discussed her infatuation with the NBA star in an op-ed for the Wall Street Journal. “Text conversations started, followed by phone conversations, followed by daily hour-long FaceTime chats,” she wrote. “He sent me flowers and gifts. I was giddy in the way I hate girls to be.”
After learning of McCurdy’s comments, Drummond spoke to TMZ regarding his thoughts on the situation. “I found [Jennette’s comments] funny. There’s a lot of false info in there, but I’ll be the mature person about the situation and let it die out,” he said.
