Nas got 3 classics that cant be debated

Illmatic - The Magnum Opus
IWW- My personal favorite which took him to the next level
Stillmatic-His career test which he passed with all A's

Everything else can be debated

Thats how I feel too. At the very least Illmatic and IWW are definite classics.

The most annoying troll in Hip Hop right now. To say MJ has one classic album is so damn insincere. Off the Wall, Thriller, Bad are not classics? GTFO.
How many songs did people jam off the albums? Oh yea, almost the entire fukking records. Add to the nonsense, you aren't going to count Jackson Five? REALLLY now? Not even Greatest Hits? Jackson Five counts as part of MJ library.

The word "classic" is too subjective. What I do know is that Thriller gets radio plays, and is far more recognized than anything else. That song pretty much owns Halloween.

The word classic most people have no idea what it means:

"a work of art of recognized and established value"
"his books have become classics"

This is all it MEANS. It doesn't mean that there are no flaws with it, that it is the holy grail of music & nothing will ever touch its greatness. . It means *ESTABLISHED* Value and being *RECOGNIZED*. People misinterpet "Classic"

Which means
Thriller,Off the Wall,Bad, (who knows what else is going to be regarded as a classic) Probably History album will be seen as classic as well.

Nas is Mt. Rushmore status but he only has one calssic.
One thing I would say to this statement, you really can't tell what is going to become a classic.

Let's look to the case of one of my favorite artists,Miles Davis. Miles was regarded as a golden child of Jazz music but when he went electric, he was blasted 10x more than Kendrick ever was. He was a heretic, a sell out,a disgrace to jazz, any insult you can think of. The writers made sure the people were to know "This is a terrible album that no one should listen to" People hated the fact that Miles didn't want to do the sounds they were accustomed to. Because he went electric (Similar to how Bob Dylan went electric at Newport Folk Festival and he was crucified as a traitor to electric) But really it wasn't a betrayal, it was a revolutionary moment that needed to happen for others to have a career & place in music.

Today, bytches Brew is not seen as horrendous, sell out, blasphemy. Miles Electric Period is celebrated more with each passing day. This is how we really have no clue (not you, not me, not anyone) what is going to become classic. That is just one example of what happens over time. Some people are just so visionary, they understand the fact that something won't be revered now but they have to create it because the zeitgeist wills it exist. Who knows what Nas albums will be revered other than ILLmatic? Get back to me in 200 years...
