Seems like DeBeers is trying to grab one last bag now that the diamond industry is being impacted by lab grown diamonds and bad economies across the globe
Not sure about Angola but Botswana definitely needs to diversify their economy more and this seems like they are doubling down on diamonds instead

there was a documentary video posted on here a while ago about how de beers created a mass market for diamond rings and jewellery out of nothing.

a quick search found this:

not 100% sure that is the one but i'm posting it anyway.

I’m aware. I found out about DeBeers and WHO CONTROLS DIAMOND CUTTING 👀 2 decades ago.

Diamonds have been known to be artificially valued for over 100 years, they're only worth is for use in construction and cutting materials. De Beers is going to completely destroy the artificial market which was created by their centruty long marketing campaign.

buy it? it's your land, take it back!
I mean it's worth noting that they are buying the existing sale contracts with vendors (like jareds, Tiffany, Shane Company, etc), discounted shipping routes, foreign sales agents, name recognition, trade secrets, patents, existing foreign lobbying contracts, existing discounted attorney contracts, etc.

this is the knowledge and infrastructure that was missing when both Mugabe and idi Amin tried just taking back the land and industry. It's a lot more complicated than just digging it out the ground and selling it.

Just Staffing the foreign offices in paris, london, new york, and Hong Kong with new employees and getting the quality control + legal compliance up to international standards could take an entire decade if they did it from scratch.
