For dudes talking about African this, African that, yall sleeping :francis:

Anyway, for anyone that cares, the AfroBasket final will be played August 30th at 9PM local time (Tunisia so GMT+1, you do the math). Angola will face off Nigeria for the title.

Angola is the most consistent African side and the most decorated with 11 titles, all of them during the last 13 tournaments. They don't really have fancy names but all play in Angola and are failliar with each other. They hacven't been lightning things up but they elevated their level when needed.

On the other hand, Nigeria has yet to win the competition. They have more known players, led by Al Faruq Aminu and his brother Alade. They also have journeyman Ben Uzoh, early 00s bench warmer Olumide Oyedeji (if anyone remembers him :russ:) and the ghost of Ike Diogu playing for exactly 1 minute the whole tournament.

Winner gets an automatic spot to the olympics. 2nd place & 3rd place (Senegal vs Tunisia) [Dieng killing it @tremonthustler1 ] get to play in an olympic qualifying tournament.

Who you got brehs?

Fully aware. Dieng always puts up numbers internationally. As long as his defense steps up.

He's been shooting a bit too much 3 pointers with mediocre percentage (3.7 a game at 18%). International distance but still :francis:

That's barely four a game. I ain't trippin'.

Nigeria has to win this.

He has shot only 7 3pts (making 2) his entire 2 seasons with teh Wolves. Against Nigeria, he went 2/7 on 3pts

It just means he's gonna shoot a bunch of mid range shots this season. He can make bank shots all day, but whatever he gives on offense is a plus. His lack of defense is what has me so down on him in general. If he can't fix that, he doesn't serve much of a purpose

I'm rooting for the home team. :blessed:

Tunisia? They're not in the final :mjpls:

He's got great stats for the tournament 23pts 15rbs & even 4asts a game (leads the tournament in pts, rbs & efficiency, which is a PER-like stat). He gets a lot of fouls but I feel like he should be more aggressive, sometimes he gets complacent trying mid range shots & 3 pts rather than attacking the basket, and this versus far inferior opposition than what he faces in the league. He cleans the glass and block some shots, but his defense still isnt great.

We Angolans is outchea! Balling is what we do even when we don't get paid. :francis:
Just watched yesterday's game and that shyt was okay. Our performance ain't the same as it once was but it's still passable I guess.

We were closer to ruthless when we had: Jean-Jacques, Lutonda, Carlos Almeida and Victor de Carvalho causing havoc. :wow:

New players are still cool like Carlos Moreira, Yannick Moreira and Eduardo Mingas, but on yesterday's game we didn't even get anywhere near "chapa 100" (a term we use which means "100 points"). At least we're getting the rebounds quite well.:francis:
I'm not as optimistic as most of my Angolan brethren since the chemistry to me just seems off (what with 2 cacs on the team and all that). But I'm excited to see today's Angolan vs Nigeria match since I know Nigeria's gonna be a problem and we kinda need that.:ehh:

:jbhmm:
On some real shyt, we're 11 times champions, so getting more titles should not be our priority as much as leveling up our mode of play so that when the Olympic games come around we're in shape to do better than we've been doing. Angola vs US games are nightmares to watch with the teams that we've got...especially since we don't have Jean-Jacques and Lutonda anymore. Them European teams are even more ruthless with their systematic slaughter.:mjcry:

Crazy that Angola has been a perennial African power, but I don't think they've put one player in the NBA

That's always amazed me too until I realized that there's an age matter to consider. Like a lot of our best players are veterans, and a lot of our veterans are end-of-the line age. :dame:
It's getting to the point we'll eventually get to the NBA tho' (God knows when) since:
Yanick Moreira already played/plays in the SMU Mustangs.
Carlos Morais was once supposed to play for the Raptors, but it didn't work out. Non-guaranteed contract. :francis:
Olympio Cipriano apparently played for the Pistons for a summer league too, it didn't work out.

Might be a height thing, I don't know. But the NBA doesn't fukk with us like that.

Watched both the semi-finals yesterday and the third place game ( Tunisa qualified by winning.) Lots of really athletic post guys, and the offences seem to run through them. You can see why most of the prospects historically have been big men.

Nigeria does have a guard who shot the hell out of the ball yesterday, was 7/12 from 3 at one point.
