i was talking about Igor not her. I mean, he was there and saw what a shyt day she had. He was nice to her, gave her the scarf, the ring. The only one who was decent towards her and then wants to fukk her in a car?
I found it to be a dig at men tbf

It wasn't a dig at men. He didn't want to fukk her. Sure he went through with it, but she initiated. It's the only way the scene could have gone in order to give Anora the character the ending that Baker wanted to give her.

Igor liked her. Truly. But if he rejected her when she made the move to climb on top of him she would have reacted badly and probably cursed him out or been offended. That would be true to the character. But that gives us a way different ending.

So in the ending we did get, she made the move, not him. And he had to let her do it for us to get to where we got. But the kiss is the true character moment, not the sex. For both of them. Him going for a kiss was him trying to pull intimacy out of her while she was in sex worker mode, and her fighting the kiss was her trying to keep intimacy out of her sex worker act because she was scared, even though that's why she got back in the car.

The idea of true intimacy took her back into the car, but the actual act of intimacy broke her.

This was the only way you could play it out that gave us that ending.

She knew he liked her and wasn't just trying to smash, but sex is the only way her brain knows how to complete a transaction with a man. Even emotionally.

I don't agree with you guys. Here's what I thought the ending was trying to say.

I think the whole movie is showing the difference between fantasy and reality. The fantasy being that she wanted to be a "princess" by marrying a rich prince from a faraway land. Even despite her past or current living situation she thought she was going to get her fairytale ending.

I believe at the end when she was with Igor she came to the realisation that her reality is that she doesn't get her dream of being a princess, and will be the wife of a low level henchman.

I truly believe Igor loves Anora compared to Ivan. Ivan was just beating it up from the back no passion. When Igor had sex with Anora in the car, you can see his eyes never loses contact with her eyes or face. Ivan didn't say a word about being sorry for putting her through the whole situation when his parents' made him get an annulment.

The whole movie is a modern realistic take on Pretty Woman. In that movie they get together when everyone knows a guy wouldn't save a street walker.

Even the poster for Anora looks like it should be for a Disney movie.

They mutually build up a heavy physical/emotional/sexual attraction in each interaction. It's all there, from the moment he steps into the room.

She likes him, just as much. It's in every single one of their interactions, but when they watch TV and smoke cigarettes, is where she drops her guard, to a degree. it's a mix of emotions and her not being able to process them, verbally.

Just watched this.

That ending :bryan:

I really felt that scene :mjcry:

It makes the movie make sense & requires multiples watches to see it from a new perspective.

@re'up & @steadyrighteous nailed it.

shyt made me think back to the previous strippers I talked to and the SUPER mixed signals I got. Based on how that rape convo went with Igor I assume she’s had it done to her & why it’s so easy for her to have sex for transactions vs the potential intimate moment at the end. That’s some deep shyt kid.

Sidebar, she really was not trying to go back to dry humping old men :lolbron:
Ain’t no annulment lil bih :mjtf:

Heavy on the realism and more on the naturalistic side which is more prevalent in European shyt, but is present in some American filmmaking
As I was watching the movie I got very eerie vibes of some 70’s films that started the shift towards realism, one in particular, Panic in Needle Park.

I do wonder if that style of directing has potential to come back in America.

The movie seems is was directed by someone in his 20s or 30s. You would have never known this was directed by someone in his 50s

Definitely meant to have a POV of some 20s to 30s, anybody older than that knows better
