It's not about selling your soul.

It's about being a clone of Nicki Minaj and Meg, and signing a deal where you're expected to have hits but you probably rely on ghost writers and top tier producers. So now your label is pressuring you everyday and every song you turn in gets rejected. While you're constantly being compared to Meg and are seen primarily as a sexual object.

If you don't play an instrument, or really write raps, you're kinda screwed, especially if you signed a deal already and label wants their money back. You're basically a slave now.

Meg and Cardi prolly don't write but they got ppl around them who do. That's the secret

:manny: I think she realized her career is over now. 1501 sold her contract to Warner music last year and now Warner music just purchased 300 entertainment (Meg the Stallion) and they will either drop her or shelf her as Meg is the star. I think @Booksnrain shared an article about how a music label will shelf you to protect a bigger artist and that’s going to happen to her.

They'll not only shelf you, depending how publishing and song credits setup they'll take your songs too. Record industry is miserable for most.

That's literally a real example of that...that's the music industry :yeshrug:

It's tough

you basically Sell your soul:

*Who you are in a relationship with is controlled, sometimes
*Your outdoor appearance
*Personality
You are basically owned by the label. You are the product they are selling. They want you to go tour? Go tour, take drugs to ease the pain if you have to. That's not getting into potential sex related stuff...

And to boot? They collect most of the money you generate, which is what makes it evil. And if your sales suffer? They drop you from the label. It's the true definition of sucking you up and spitting you out dry. They use you and spit you out for what you're worth.

The only positive is that you can avoid this if you have multiple useful skills/traits. For instance, Mariah Carey not only is a great singer, but she knows how to actually write songs/an album. And her shyt sold so well they didn't need her to tour much. Another example: certain top flight rappers who write their lyrics and know how to produce music and have a following, the only obligation their record label cares about is just putting out albums when they need them to.

If you can write your songs (or at least show an ability to come up with melodies), play instruments, dance, and have some sort of business savvy, etc. They don't have to control you as much, because you're literally saving them money from paying an expensive team of producers, marketers, stylists, etc. They can cheapen out on that stuff and have more confidence and belief in you.

@blues_funk_reggae and @NinoBrown
Crazy thing is sometimes they still force you to go to studios you don't need to be at racking up hella time and then give you like 2-3 writers you don't need taking cuts of producer credits

Brooklyn keeps on taking it.
depends on the level of fame…

That low level fame seems stressful because it’s most likely temporary and money actually coming in is nothing compared to what people think you have. Every day is a fight to stay relevant. And on top of that you gotta deal with friends and family constantly hitting you up.

But once you break through and hit the other side and achieve that Kardashian or Drake level of fame, everything looks gucci. They basically got that fukk you money. The problem is getting to that point is damn near impossible.

Fame sucks bro no matter how slice it up
