Even now India is a very conservative society dating/casual fukking isn't to prevalent, arranged marriage was traditionally always the largest institution. Thanks to modernization and bollywood now though younger people are starting to practice a more western form of courtship but the older generation still looks down on it. Plus non virgin women/fukk arounds are looked down on by society as a whole and the concept of family honor is still pretty big, thats why alot of these women that are raped are forever stigmatized and treated like trash.
