Even if you paid half of that in taxes you could take just $4 million of your remaining $44 million and buy an ETF that yields 2.5% and generate $100K pre-tax in annual income off it. Since you still have $40 million you just set it and forget it. In 10 years with a 7% return that's grown to over $9 million and pays $225K in annual dividend income and that's assuming no growth in the dividend over that span and a lower than average market return of that 7% and that doesn't even account for reinvestment of anything past the original yield of $100K a year.
Anybody that blows through that kinda money is a moron and didn't deserve to have it. Someone making that kinda money should have educated themselves on how to handle it.

they are professional athletes. they are usually naive and not financially savvy. they know little to nothing outside of the sport they play typically.
they are lucky these leagues coddle them by forcing them to put money away for retirement, so even when they go bankrupt, they are still gonna get their pension later on.
