thats not really information people just volunteer lol
DC is very much a "where do you work/what do you do/what church do you go to/fraternity/sority" type city

I can't speak for other people or how folks do this stuff in America but for my people, you have to be chosen/family passes it down to you. From this thread it seems like cats just go to mixers to get down lol. I personally wouldn't mess with this stuff in America unless its something that was already passed down in your family generational.

I'd even be weary when seeking guidance from someone practicing traditional spiritual systems simply because American capitalism b*stardizes this stuff so much it isn't worth risking your soul.

Thats my 2 cents though, so best of luck.

yeah, thats why i told @Guvnor not right now. Mentally physically and spiritualily i'm not in the right space to pursue anything IMO. i'm a history guy tho so
i have no idea about blood lines but i do have a somewhat known ancestor that practiced vodou.

I honestly wouldn't even mess with any of this stuff unless you are in a Southern Coastal city like MIA, NO, Savannah, Charleston, etc. or just a rural city. From what I hear in most major cities it's a lot of finessing going on.

Yep, that's one of the reasons I haven't found a god parent in the religion yet. Too many con artist and people turning it into a hustle.

Okay cool.

Respect and yeah it's not for everyone, but I have a question. Why does it make you nervous? I mean you eat KFC, you eat burgers and a lot of times people eat the animals that are killed in this religion. Unless it's considered taboo to eat it.
I just stick with the religion I've always known.

Couldn't that actually be the case though? It's very rare for African descended folks in the States to venture out of Christianity. It has such a chokehold on our society that for those that are able to loose themselves out of it and out of all faiths, find themselves in Ifa, how do we know that an Ifa practicing Yoruba ancestor didn't lead/guide them to it?

I wanted to learn more about Ifa. I've downloaded a few books on it. Just want to learn more, so I could contact my ancestors not join the religion.

A lot of the African Americans who practice their original African spiritual systems are probably some of the biggest Christians you'll ever meet.

I see, I respect that and as long as you feel full spiritually from it that's all that matter though you shouldn't be afraid to challenge your faith with questions and see if it still holds up. If you find it to still be valid and true then that will only strengthen your faith. As you can see, it's no secret that I'm not the biggest fan of Christianity and feel it's done a big disservice to black people but I won't push the issue anymore lol.

Facts, I know what you mean man. People have to be careful.

Very true, I grew up in a very christian household myself and even went to Sunday school coming up but I always questioned religion and god and felt there was more out there. So I searched through a lot of different schools of thought and even went to psychic readers and did the whole new age deal looking for answers about my path in life. I felt lost but as I broke away from the christian religion and began looking, I felt I was finding myself more and more, first it started with my aunt's husband passing and me able to feel his presence, at this point it was revealed to me that some members of my family do have spiritual gifts but we are Christians and suppress that kind of thing. I then saw a botanica's window display one day and the rest is history, I really felt called to IFA and something just clicked. In fact no other religion I studied has made me feel that way though Hinduism and Buddhism came close yet still felt incomplete.
