I can't recall how many times I've rolled two joints, sat with a gallon of water and enjoyed this live performance while waiting/chilling/relaxing during this summer alone, let alone many times over the years since I've been a Bad Brains fan. It's almost to the point I don't even want to see them live unless H.R, as burnt out as he is, is with his bro's, 'cause I can't stand to see Dr Know and Darryl Jennifer's iconic riffs being butchered by various dread wearing cacs and imposters, sad to say.
Glad to see Death/Bad Francis and other black punk/hardrock bands getting shine too, but Bad Brains just does something to you if it holds you.
:whew:

That Florida show is a virtuoso set of how to be an energetic front man, I'd say Roth and whomever else the fukk could never compare with in their primes. God Bless Bad Brains, man.

i was thinking about them again recently. its a shame how mental illness has taken HR. i hope hes better nowadays but i wouldnt be surprised if he wasnt. dr know has gotta be one patient dude dealing with that lol. i dont doubt that HR is a decent man but some of the teachings hes learned are quite bigoted and of course he piped them right back out to a crowd of gay white punks and kinda ruined his reputation, but religious insanity combined with mental insanity is nothing new... thats how they got jesus in the first place! :mjlol:

but seriously as a punk legend i want the best for HR. and that stands for human rights, (which along with his music) thats why i know hes prolly a decent guy despite obviously never meeting him.

i doubt he actually hates gays but he thinks Jah doesnt approve so of course he goes there :francis:

it happens a lot in reggae too and people overreact. i doubt buju was out there with a machete settling the score lol

I gotta get that new album of their’s
lol i wouldnt bother... but if you got a taste for underappreciated black innovators in punk rock i would look up bands like skunk anasie. poly styrene of x ray spex is irish and somilian iirc.

but really like the punk ethos is so widespread these days that you dont need to limit yourself to genre. even back in the day, some of the crustiest gutter punks i knew considered 'fukk tha police' by nwa as a punk rock classic. you dont need guitars to be punk rock... you need a hatred of authority and shyt like that. rap and punk rock are cousins in a way. the key to solving racism might be in there too for all i know

bad brains these days well... im not going to belittle their accomplishments. i respect them and love their music. i love how they kicked down so many doors, but everything after i against i doesnt hold up. the album the beastie boys helped with was just godawful. that time is over... but you can still appreciate black dots, play to cum, rock for light, i against i, etc.

there are some really fukking cool black or mixed race bands coming out of africa and the middle east. bad brains are legends but their time is past. africa has some amazing metal these days. dig in

The new album is old work from their prime years

I’m always down to hear “new” old work from an artists’ glory days

Without the original members, it’s a Tribute band.

In both configurations, yes. Jennifer/Dr Know with someone else on drums or Vocals or even worse, burnt out HR with everyone else replaced. It's just sad all around. Atleast when they're all together, you know that HR can sound somewhat decent on the reggae portion of the set since he's not moving past the microphone stand at all anymore, but it's one of those "You had to be there" moments with regards to this band and it hurts, man.
