So I have a son; he's three and a half. And he's showing signs of being a future Bboy. Every time we play music he skips the two step and goes straight to the floor. Putting his head on the floor, doing the poses, even tryin to do the footwork. It's not like he's been watching Breakin videos so I don't know where he got it from.

So I wanna know, how do I encourage this? I want him to learn the skills so by the time he's a preteen he can just flow, ya know? I'm more of a choreography dancer and my husband has one step that he started doing to house music but he does it to everything. :stopitslime: There are classes but they don't get to the nitty gritty. They don't go beyond pop-locking. This boy wants to head spin so bad....

So can anyone point in the direction of either a video or a class in the NYC/north NJ area? General pointers?

As long as little man stays loving music, he'll be good. You should take him to jam in the up there in New York just so he can take a look at the scene, ill look up if there's commin up.

beat him thoroughly whenever he miss a step 2, and if you have older kids make sure that they have sex with significant others in front of your child, also encourage self hate and pop in peter pan movies consistently - disney, robin williams w/e

thank me later :win:

this is THE WRONG DAMN PLACE to ask about B-BOYS..... :shaq2:

All these fools in here are raised on a healthy diet of Southern Trap Rap , Commercial Swag Rap and East Coast Coke Music........all sprinkled with the aroma of Simulated Gangsterisim on top.

the B-BOY died when the D-BOY grabbed the mic in the mid 90's i.e (BIG, JADA, JAY-Z, MASTER P.).....

you wanna know about the art of being a B-BOY go to Welcome to OldSchoolHipHop.Com - A Tribute to Hip Hop Prior to 1986

Where are you located?

3 and a half? they aint learnin shyt at that age, see if he still likes breaking when hes like 6 or 8 ...

if you really want to get serious, research about workshops being taught in the area, maybe call some community facilities if there are breaking classes being taught.

and like they said take em to jams or just show em youtube videos lol

but real talk.....as a Parent myself i have to ask this question:

How do you know he has a future as a BREAKDANCING B-BOY at the tender age of 3??

i mean like real talk..when my son was 3 he liked to do crazy shyt like try to jump off couches and bellyflop on me when i was laying on the floor or the bed...

but I DIDN'T FEEL THE NEED TO ENROLL HIM IN MIXED MARTIAL ART CLASSES FOR TODDLERS.... :why:

How bout u worry bout the MOST ESSENTIAL THING A KID NEEDS TO LEARN AT 3...

like his ABC's...or how to USE THE POTTY....or SHAPE AND COLOR RECOGNITION......

yall mofos so concerned with raising prodigy's instead of just normal kids..............

u end up doing HURTING the child more than HELPING him in the future

I don't think there's anything wrong with enrolling your kid in break dancing or martial arts at a very early age..self defense is essential..it's better than putting your kid in front of the TV and having him/her watch cartoons all day..

Excuse me? My son is more than good on the essentials. He's knows and recognize all the ABcs since two. He can read some words already and he's fully potty trained. Recognizes all shapes and colors and writes his name by himself. And he's good with math. He's the teacher's favorite and they all marvel at how sweet, obedient, and SMART he is. Assuming much? Miss me with that. :birdman:

I created this thread because I want to raise a well rounded kid and encourage his talents and passions as well as his academics. My mother was in dance class since she was three and she went on to get her masters and law degree.

The kid loves to dance and I noticed he has a certain style. I'm not the only one to notice, his teacher brought it up to me a couple of times. And I would rather him learn it from professionals so he doesn't hurt himself. So that makes me a bad parent?:mindblown:

ETA: one more thing. This is the age where kids start showing their interests, preferences and talents, prodigy or not. They actively choose to do things that give them satisfaction, happiness, and things they feel they are good at more often than other things that don't. It's called niche picking and if Breakin is a possible niche for him I want him to explore it. Like I said, he's already good on the essentials.

Ain't no Joe Jacksons in my house. If Lil man never danced outside of class or my living room I'd be fine as long as it makes him happy.

Oh, and fukk. OFF. :pacspit:

I'm an 'Old School B-Boy'. If I tried any of my old moves now, I'd really 'break' something. My advice: Let him see as many moves as he can. Watch old movies like 'Breakin', 'Beat Street', 'Wild Style', etc. Play as many old school break-beat joints as you can find and let him experiment. Get a playmat rather than cardboard boxes and let that boy :cook: until he wears himself out.

Today's beats are azz for breakin'. The previous posts mentioning Oldschooldhiphop and Bboy.org are definitely where you want to go to search out the best beats for all styles of breakin', lockin', etc.

Here's a few of my favorites:

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHh_imdLKCk"]Herbie Hancock - Rockit - YouTube[/ame]

One word of warning: At his age, he has NO fear until he hurts himself so you're gonna have to pay more attention to him as he gets more into it. I never hurt myself seriously other than a sprained ankle and a few bruises but I didn't start until I was 10. Stretching before practicing moves is essential.

Staten Island. There is a free boys hip hop class for all ages but I didn't see anyone under six. I didn't want Lil Man to be a possible distraction and I'm iffy on the teacher.
