I'm an 'Old School B-Boy'. If I tried any of my old moves now, I'd really 'break' something. My advice: Let him see as many moves as he can. Watch old movies like 'Breakin', 'Beat Street', 'Wild Style', etc. Play as many old school break-beat joints as you can find and let him experiment. Get a playmat rather than cardboard boxes and let that boy :cook: until he wears himself out.

Today's beats are azz for breakin'. The previous posts mentioning Oldschooldhiphop and Bboy.org are definitely where you want to go to search out the best beats for all styles of breakin', lockin', etc.

Here's a few of my favorites:

UTFO- Hanging Out (VOCALS) - YouTube

Hashim - Al-Naafiysh (The Soul). - YouTube

Twilight 22 - Electric Kingdom - YouTube

Boogie Boys Shake And Break Mp3 Download

Newcleus - Jam On It - YouTube

T La Rock - It's Yours (Radio Mix) - YouTube

Larry's Dance Theme - Grandmaster Flash - YouTube

Sugarhill Gang Apache (Jump On It) - YouTube

Fearless Four - Rockin´ it - YouTube

Captain Rock - Cosmic Blast - YouTube

Herbie Hancock - Rockit - YouTube

One word of warning: At his age, he has NO fear until he hurts himself so you're gonna have to pay more attention to him as he gets more into it. I never hurt myself seriously other than a sprained ankle and a few bruises but I didn't start until I was 10. Stretching before practicing moves is essential.

Thank You so much! Downloading these songs!! Well, I have Planet Rock already.

I bought a Carbon 15 when I was 18
So I have a son; he's three and a half. And he's showing signs of being a future Bboy. Every time we play music he skips the two step and goes straight to the floor. Putting his head on the floor, doing the poses, even tryin to do the footwork. It's not like he's been watching Breakin videos so I don't know where he got it from.

So I wanna know, how do I encourage this? I want him to learn the skills so by the time he's a preteen he can just flow, ya know? I'm more of a choreography dancer and my husband has one step that he started doing to house music but he does it to everything. :stopitslime: There are classes but they don't get to the nitty gritty. They don't go beyond pop-locking. This boy wants to head spin so bad....

So can anyone point in the direction of either a video or a class in the NYC/north NJ area? General pointers?
