Any brehs/brehettes apart of any grassroots/non profit organizations?

My perception of Atlanta is skewed down here has a lot going on, just wanted to be in a more economical black area, just curious what was wrong with the UNIA?

Basically they're a bunch weed heads and really aren't doing anything. I was excited to join especially because of the history of the organization but they're pretty much dead.

The 100 Black Men org though seems pretty decent, but I only went to one happy hour event of theirs. It's more of a professional networking group for black people than anything.

Most recently I am/was a member of TMO, The Metropolitan Organization I haven't been active in anything in like a year and a half I want to start being involved again I was actually think of making a thread were we could list the the organizations we know in our areas when this section was mentioned. Maybe this can serve that purpose as well?

I used to be a member and my experience was the total opposite. Not only were there so few of us in number ( It's grown quite a bit since then but not enough) but whites still have a strong foothold and aren't trying to give it up. I still have contact with people who are still part of it. They keep me informed.

Yea it still isn't enough of us in either local, but we are getting better; we are pressing the university to bring in more black grad students as well so our numbers get stronger.

Great thread,I live in Philly and I'm currently involved with local chapter of the Urban League, 100 Black men in America, and a City wide mentoring program that engages young black and Latino students in the community between the ages of 13-18 to engage in community service and Activism. At the moment, alot of my time is being spent with local leaders and activists on launching a local political think tank that focuses on political and economic development.

Currently the treasurer for a local deal called United Black Men. Done a lot of tutoring and a few projects taking care of household stuff for old folks.
It's not glamorous work but it needs to get done one way or another.

And UL, Dream Defenders, NAACP, and most these black groups are a damn joke man. nikkas will allow cacs into every damn thing we do man. Its why I had to stop fukking with the group I was dealing with cause they wanted cacs to join too smh.

I know the dudes who started Dream Defenders, I knew them back when they was just kicking that idea around and going to small events in the North Florida area. And I'll give you that, they have gone off message a little bit but at the same time they are good nikkas and they mean well. They just some young nikkas just like me and you. Give them boys some time to grow and mature. And its easy to sit on the sidelines and say they went off track when you not in that situation. Them nikkas went from eating ramen and cube steaks all week and having 5-6 roommates in a ratchet ass Tallahassee house to traveling around the country and making more than their parents make in just a few short years. I think it would be hard for even the best of us to stay on message in that situation and at the end of the day it really boils down to how you handle the money and success once you get it. And until you get that first taste of it you will never know. Money changes people.

There are c00ns everywhere. But don't act like those nikkas living in SW Atlanta in those mansions off Danforth aint pro black as they come. And don't act like those militant ass Masjid nikkas in the West End aint pro Black as hell either. Ima go out on a limb and say you don't stay or spend much time in the area between MLK and Camp Creek

The bolded is why I have an issue with them. It's one thing to work a job and get paid, but when you're supposed to be doing stuff on behalf of black liberation, taking money from cacs (George Soros) shouldn't even be on the table.

It's why the NAACP and Urban League are in the condition they're in. Once you're funding starts coming from the same people oppressing you, black people will never have real progress IMO.

Bruh you speaking on stuff you don't know a lot about. 100 Black Men send hella nikkas from the poor parts of the A to college on a full ride every year, and been doing it as long as I can remember. They sent my best friend to Tennessee State on a full ride and gave him tutoring everyday from like 6th thru 12th. They did the same for his little brother at FAMU and I know a few other folks that was in that 100 Black Men Project Success program and they all got full rides to college from them. I wasn't even in Project Success and my best friend's mentor hooked me up with my first job at City Hall. Wasn't even anywhere near qualified for it and he still hooked me up. I was in my early 20's making grown nikka money. If that's not helping out young black nikkas from the hood then I don't know what the hell is bruh. Real talk

This is why I didn't want to post because I went to the site and saw

I did get involved through my church but it is community based. You basically use them to get things done is specific neighbor hoods. You take your issues and use their numbers to take it to local government. For example there was a complaint about a large number street lights being out on the streets in one of the neighbornoods. People were targeting those areas to rob. We partnered with them to get them fixed and they replaced them all. Things like that, any issues.
