I gotta go OT this weekend and looked up a round trip and it's actually not that expensive. I would rather ride the train instead of driving so I can relax a little bit and enjoy the scenery. Plus I never been on a train so it would new experience for me.
What should I expect?
never rode it out where you are, but done the NE corridor probably like 20 times. even did nyc to niagara falls a few times.
amtrak is the shyt. NONE of the hassels you get when flying. half the time ive rode my ID never even got checked. one day that'll all change. but for now, take the worst things there are about flying, remove them, and thats amtrak. shyt takes longer but its smooth, and a lot of the routes are scenic. nice rides. much easier to sleep. much easier to read, work on a laptop, whatever you need to do. they got a bar car with reasonably priced drinks, and if that doesnt do it for you, bring your own alcohol on. maybe some bud too. you never get searched (although ive heard in cali people getting randomly searched)
delays can be a bytch though, add like an hour onto the expected time at least. sometimes on big trips they'll switch the engine car and you'll have like a 30 or 60 minute layover where you can get off and walk around outside or chill in the train station. some cities stations are pitiful, others are good. the DC station is prob the best, better than NYCs penn station. i hope amtrak stays afloat because im leaning towards it more and more instead of flying or driving. IMO its probably the last peaceful, stress free method of travel we have left
