I wish. How long should it take to learn the basics?

Not long. Once you learn 3-4 chords you'll be able to play hundreds of songs. The more you learn, the more you can do. 30 to an hour a day and in 1 year you'll be able to look back at your progress and be like damn....but you'll understand how you knew nothing and now you can stare at the TV and play without looking.

Has anyone ever tried using Rocksmith?

I have a PC with an audio interface and an electric guitar. I used to take lessons and could read music and play a few songs but i forget. I remember how to read guitar tabs though since it was easy. Thinking about getting back into it.

I have it. It's fun in that if you are a completionist, it forces you to play music or songs outside of your preferred genre. And it challenges you in that there are different chord progressions and notes as well as techniques in different songs so if you are ever making your own music or find yourself in front of some music that your faced to play, you can do it.

I have Rocksmith+ too for the piano. And it's much of the same. It goes on sale around black Friday a year subscription for like $50 or so.

If you get an old version, you can play the games on it. Which are dope because you aren't playing songs but practicing techniques like string skipping, chords, transitions, hammer ons, bends, slides... And you are learning and practicing but not in the traditional way of doing so. So while you're hitting a high score or beating a level it actually translates to real skills

Got my first guitar (acoustic 6 strings).

What's the best Youtube channel to learn as a beginner?
Are you still trying to learn?

Guitar center be raping people worse than GameStop. Severely overcharging and financing. Not the wave.
I was in GC a couple of months ago picking up some strings, I normally buy them online but I was nearby and said why not....
I overheard someone talking to their tech, and the tech said a guitar setup would cost them $110 + tax which is criminal ....
Worst part was, the person was buying one of their guitars off the wall, that guitar should be setup PERIOD before it gets to the customer, but we live in different times ...
Not to mention that the guitar market is a buyers market, the buyers hold all the leverage and people don't even know this :snoop:

I felt like getting involved and telling the person to ask them for a setup or you walking out, but it wasn't my business :manny:

Yeah, they had some on the wall with fukked up strings, needing a set up. Guy I was talking to showed me a nice es-330. He said it's been here for 9 months, it's great but people hate the color. Tona of shyt just chilling. But people are foolish they'll open up that credit card and buy "new!" Over used and used in excellent condition, or used, good condition.

It's like gym equipment, rarely ever buy new at full price. Let some other fool but it at full price and let that shyt sit in their basement then buy it off them.

100%

You know I been in here telling people to NEVER buy a brand new guitar, sh*t makes no sense. I haven't bought a brand new guitar in over 20 years.

And yeah, these stores have guitars that be sitting there for a MINUTE without being touched. Then the GC website be flooded with guitars, the over saturation is wild out here. That's why I tell people you hold all the cards, these stores will fold in a second if they think they getting a sale.

All the good guitars are in the used market, ain't sh*t in the brand new section of the GC website.

After talking with a songwriter friend I’ve known for sometime this past weekend in LA, I think imma get a guitar and start doing the singer/songwriter grind or get those “keys”.

I brought a bass years ago but I never really did play it play it, I really brought it so I could record lines I might want, not to perform with.

I already perform professionally as a saxophonist and im accomplished enough but I think I might be making a little move to see what LA music scene is hitting for this summer.

Honestly I forgot how much I missed LA until this past weekend. It can be a playground if you have the right type of cash and crew. But, just being there this weekend and enjoying the social scene made me feel alive again, made me see potential that I haven’t see over the past few years

Go grab a Squier for like $149 bro really inexpensive and effective
He could cop a squire. Even get one on sale for less. At a price point of 149 he might be able to cop an Ibanez acoustic/electric.

With all the options now to plug in an interface and just put your headphones on, or even plug in an interface and have it Bluetooth to a speaker, it's not a bad investment. One doesn't have to make any serious investments to actually dive in, whereas shyt, 10 years ago, one still have to spend either money or buy gear to get their feet wet.

There's the boss katana go, fender mustang micro (and the plus), the positive grid spark go/mini speaker.

Just having a something that can add on some simple effects or change tones can make playing or practicing much more engaging. Don't have to get separate amps, and heads, pedals, no more.

Any gear heads in here? I f*ck with Gibson TV heavy, this just dropped

They have other videos showing off artists collections, their content is real good :ehh:

I'm currently in the market for a Gibson SG, never had one, but would like to run it through a Marshall for that classic rock tone.

I don't know if this is the type of gear you're talking about, but I want to rep a product anyway.

I have a boss katana go

I'm letting one of my coworkers use it.

I also have the fender mustang micro, and the mustang micro plus.

So obviously these devices plug into your guitar or *bass (katana go only), and you can plug wired head phones into the device and play amplified guitar anywhere. Change tones, eq, effects, etc.

Now the fender mustang micro is basic, no led, just a few amps, effects. It's fun, it's cool.

Now the mustang micro plus and the boss katana go, have all that, plus an LED so you can see what amps your choosing, and it has Bluetooth connectivity so you can connect to your phone/tablet and choose your amp/change your tone, edit the effects, mods and event create your own tones, upload them online or download other tones.

I have a long aux cord so rather than wear headphones, I have a surround sound system with an aux in, or a beats pill and other portable speakers with aux in.....I'll plug into those and play, rather than use headphones or turn on the focusrite and other studio gear.

Now you don't have to use a secondary device such as a phone or tablet to use any of these. Just plug them in to your instrument and use your headphones or speaker and aux cord and jam. But with the katana and the mustang plus they can connect to a secondary device.

They all receive Bluetooth so you can play a backtrack from a device and then play over the backtrack as it plays.

Also, and most important, they are all plug and play audio input devices. You can use usb-c to your device whether tablet or PC and load up your daw and record.

I've heard people saying the new one doesn't work with iPad something about low battery input but I'll try it later and see what's up.

They are pretty fun, another easy way to play and get lost playing.
