Ok so I emailed the inspector.

“The AC is Electric and the heater is gas”

@MaxBundles can u school me on the pros and cons of this unit? Is this normal to have both?

Okay that sounds much better. I figured you was mistaken. Nobody is installing a natural gas unit on a new construction home.

Yes, that is 100% normal. Most units are that way. Not really much to say as far as pros and cons go. You have a regular run of the mill AC.

Only thing really is that gas is cheaper than electricity so in the winter time your electric bill would be slightly lower but you have solar panels so I guess it wouldn't matter really.

I have a family member who had a house inspected for a purchase, house has solar panels and they were hoping to take advantage of not really having an electric bill but it looks like the AC is powered by natural gas?

Method of cooling: Gas compression

6: Number of units: 1

7: Location of equipment: Split or remote system 8: Condenser location: Rear of structure

9: Electrical disconnect location: Adjacent to condensing unit
CONDENSING UNIT

10: The condensing unit appears to be properly installed and in serviceable condition.

REFRIGERANT LINES
11: The accessible refrigerant lines appear to be in good condition.

DUCT INSULATION

12: The ducts are insulated with fiberglass. The insulation appears to be properly installed and in good condition.
THERMOSTAT

13: The thermostat appears to be properly installed and both the heating and cooling functions responded to the user controls.
GENERAL COMMENT

14: The air conditioning is newer, responded to normal operating controls and with routine maintenance should be reliable for number of years.

Heat

A heating system consists of the heating equipment, operating and safety controls, venting and the means of distribution. These items are visually examined for proper function, excessive or unusual wear and general state of repair. This is a non-evasive, basic function review only. We do not dismantle, uncover or calculate efficiency of any system. Regular servicing and inspection of heating systems is encouraged.

Forced Hot Air
BASIC INFORMATION

15: Furnace location: Attic

16: Energy source: Natural gas 17: Filter size: 20 x 25 x 1 inch

GAS SUPPLY

18: The gas piping includes a 90 degree shutoff valve for emergency use. The valve was not tested at the time of inspection. This age and style of valve is normally found to be operable by hand and generally trouble free.

AIR FILTERS

19: The air filter for the heating unit is a conventional, disposable filter.

AC is NEVER powered by natural gas. just your heat. the AC is powered by electric. my furnace provides both heat and AC, but in the summer, it's not using any gas to cool the house.

But if the house was built with solar panels then why would they have installed a gas powered AC? The solar panels would have payed off the AC bill.
It takes a shyt ton of KW to run an a/c constantly and that type of power hog isn’t going to stay reliable on sunshine breh. You could be in the middle of the desert and you still wouldn’t get enough efficiency. Solar panel technology isn’t there yet but it will be at some point in the next decade to 15 years

@MaxBundles What is your thoughts on Heat Pumps? My state has been pushing conversion incentives heavy.
I am kinda concerned on how they hold up in freezing winter temperatures

Heat pumps nowadays are very efficient and hold up very well. Thats actually what I have in my house and what my company offers to customers.
If you currently heat your house with oil, I would 100% recommend the switch especially now with the crazy increase in the price of heating oil.
What state you live if you don't mind?

Yeah I got oil and this current price hike is killing me breh.
I just dropped 1k to fill my tank 2 weeks ago. :damn:

My oil boiler/furnace was built in 1970 and is inefficient as fukk. I was thinking of switching to natural gas but heat pump has gained my attention.

I live in Boston.

Lol na I feel you. I used to have oil too but converted. My brother still has oil and was paying bout $400 a month last year, now its over 1k a month. shyt is ridiculous right now.

1970?? Na breh, definitely time to upgrade. Im telling you, you gonna be happy you did. Even if you decide to go with natural gas, its still gonna be WAY cheaper than oil. Also, since your in Boston, they are giving great rebates to switch plus you can claim it on your taxes next year.

Wait after further research, your solar panels don’t power the air conditioner cuz the air container runs on AC and the panels generate DC and that u need a inverter?
