No I.D. and Salaam are label executives at Def Jam and Sony, respectively. We should be hitting them on Twittter or their blogs or sites saying we need to Lost Tapes. I'm sure they both have unreleased work with Nas and could use some royalties for their production.

:ohhh:

A second or third volume may not top the original lost tapes but it will definately be better than most shyt out now and probably better than some of his weaker albums. It all depends on how much of it we have heard before. If we had never heard tracks that appeared on the Lost Tapes, I bet it would've at least gone gold within a year.

I say he just needs to drop a Sony box set that highlights more than just his classic but also the well known unreleased tracks and freestyles. Then he can release the unheard, unknown shyt on the Lost tapes 2.

I'd assume this Illmatic XX will be the last Nas project we will get from Sony Legacy. The only chance we have now for a Lost Tapes 2 will be if Def Jam decides to drop one after Nas' next and last Def Jam album. If the new album is a hit, I think there is a slim chance that Def Jam capitalizes off of its success but it is doubtful since they have balked before. I think its a good chance that his Def Jam tracks will also be forever lost like his tons of Sony tracks.

Salaam Remi spoke to Vibe a couple days ago and says that he's personally produced 2-3 albums worth of unreleased Nas material but Nas is notoriously finicky so he doubts any of it will ever get released.

At this point I'd rather a new album anyways. We're already getting the 20th anniversary Illmatic re-release I doubt that either Nas or Def Jam wants to spend too much of 2014 focusing on nostalgia when he's primed to drop new material.

And let's be real, all of us true Nas Stan's have at least 5-10 gigs worth of unreleased Nas material. Hell I've already got just about everything I could even dream of being on an official Lost Tapes 2 (sans White Man's Paper:sadcam:) over the years from the unreleased Nas thread

I wasn't thinking any earlier than 2015 for TLT2 from Def Jam and I think there is as good of chance if any to get it then. Nas said it as already done, minus any newer unreleased material that could be added. Def Jam hasn't released anything good since Life Is Good so they may as well let another Nas project go. There would be minor expenses compared to a traditional album and Nas has a built in audience. He has his film coming out, his book is overdue, he is on his business right about now too so I wouldn't be that surprised.

Yeah, Salaam has a ton of unreleased tracks for Nas. Swizz beats said he does too. Since I can really only stomach Nas and a select handful of other mc's, I'm hoping TLT2 drops next year to be followed up by Distant Relatives 2.

You have to understand the business aspect of getting these dream projects done. TLT2 didn't drop because Nas wanted an album budget for it and to have it count as an "official" project to go against the number of albums he owed Def Jam. He already did Distant Relatives, which came out under Universal, not Def Jam, so I'm sure DJ felt they'd already given Nas his "freebie" artistically and wanted him to focus on LIG. Yes it sucks and I was HIGHLY pissed when it came to light why LT2 got held up but hate the evils of being on a major. At this point I want Nas to do whatever the fukk he wants, I'll buy whatever he puts out. I'm just not sure at this point it'll be Lost Tapes 2 as the focus will be on Illmatic for the first half of 2014 and the new album in the second half, possibly pushing into 2015 with touring and promotion and such

I understand that and agree but it seems like once his contract is up, they can release whatever they want since they own all the masters. With the (hopeful) great success of his next album and with his popularity soaring, wouldn't they just to capitalize off of it? Kind of like when Sony released the Illmatic to Stillmatic remixes and then the Lost Tapes. Stillmatic had gone platinum and all of a sudden (according to them) Nas was hot again. This is how I see it and I hope that it proves to be true. I would assume Nas is not going to re-sign with Def Jam and so they may just decide to cash in off of what's left of their investment in Nas.

If we can't get the Lost Tapes, Nas needs to double on and come back with another project sooner. What happened to the days when rappers used to release their albums and then shortly after, they'd release an EP. Ice Cube did it a couple of times. So did NWA. These were clearly throwaway tracks from their sessions. The game is wack and there are many rappers who spits shyt with any real substance out anymore.

Did everybody forget about the Lost Tapes 2?

I'm curious to know how/why Def Jam with not allow Nas to out out TLT2 with solely his Def Jam tracks and pull in most of the profit and instead allow the tracks to sit until Now Nas is leaving with his tracks and Sony (due to distribution of his label) will now be cut in to the money. :what:

Explain this?

three years is a bit of a ways off, but this was first being talked about nearly a decade ago, under a different label. So i'm going to say no

Well, it was mentioned in an article that he would release it on his new label, Mass Appeal. Of course, this is after his new album comes out, for which we are still waiting (sarcasm). He also has artist on his label that are supposed to drop and supposedly a Mass appeal compilation that should've been out already. My best guess is that the earliest we'll see Nas new album is the Fall, which would mean that the other Mass Appeal projects may be released between the winter and/or anytime in 2016. Nas would next be due up in 2017. Mind you, that his releases are often delayed, as is the case with this new album. I, a huge Nas fan and supporter, am very disappointed and frustrated. Anyway, 2018 is far away but based n the way he has been operating and his primary interest being on business, I wouldn't doubt it.
