The Cure's Pornography album is a personal fav. Such a dark record. I like Joy Division, New Order, Echo and the Bunnymen's first two projects. I like NIN and Depeche Mode too. Funny when I was in middle and high school, and would see white people in NIN shirts I looked at them likeNever thought one day I'd be listening to that stuff. I've got a pretty damn good NIN playlist on my phone.

I love Fascination Street. You can hear wear Interpol and other bands got their sounds from. Folks like to say Joy Division but I think the Cure had more influence.
They say joy division because every fukking post punk frontman wants to sound like Ian curtis. I think it has less to do with the actual instrumentation. Hmmmmmmmm I honestly never made that comparison though and TTOTBL is one of my favorite joints. Interpol is lyrically too myopic for me to liken them to the cure.

Yep, the Cure, New Order/Joy Division, Siouxsie, Cocteau Twins (Garlands), Windsor for the Derby, Bauhaus, The Birthday Party, Talking Heads, Jesus and the Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine, etc.....
Those early 80’s goth/post-punk/shoegaze/new wave bands are the best.
If you are really a music fan, check out movies directed by Sofia Coppola. Her film, Marie Antoinette, with Kirsten Dunst, is still the best movie soundtrack I’ve ever heard. It’s a combination of all of this + classical music of the baroque 17th century, like Vivaldi. It’s some really good stuff. The plot on its own wasn’t great. Paired with the music, however, the music + the visuals made that movie straight up art.

Yeah I got two nin albums. I heard the first one, is it pretty hate machine????? That downward spiral shyt is some real shyt though. Got that for my 19th birthday and then got year zero in 07. Last time I played that record was on memorial day weekend in Boston driving around in the wee hours of the morning, being depressed and shyt alone obviously because I went there on vacay by myself. When that hurt song played....
I've heard some songs from the 05 album, the one with only and the hand that feeds, that shyt wasnt all that. Any other good albums by nin aside from the obvious one.
I got some death depressive metal on my ipod too that I downloaded 5 years ago when I was unemployed and in a funk. That shyt is a hit or miss. Some songs have a dope melody or rhythm too it to go along with the muttering because a lot of songs have dudes screaming and shyt. Other songs are like I cant get jiggy to this shyt.
