You hear it all the time. “Mental health is important in the black community.” Well, I don’t have any serious trauma or anything but I do have it covered under my healthcare so I decided to sign up and see what’s up. :yeshrug:

I think it’s a good idea to have a person who’s legally inclined not to judge you and just listen to your problems. Some things I wanna say but you can’t really express yourself emotionally to a woman as a black man regarding any personal concerns you may have, and even venting to your bros every now and then can be weird because you know they’re there for you, it’s just my personality doesn’t yield well to seeming like I’m “complaining.” I hate complaining people as much as the next person, so I don’t really like venting at all because of how similar it seems. But we all wanna vent sometimes.

Anybody have experience with this?

What problems are you having? Because going to therapy means you're dealing with something traumatic

Eh, rather save that for the therapy. No offense to you or anything, I just don’t like putting personal business on the Internet. Though, maybe one day I wouldn’t mind. Coli therapy is funny as shyt. There have been times where I’ve seen people here have really bad days and the responses damn near force you to laugh.

Not necessarily

Some people just go to talk things through and have someone listen. No one gives a fukk about grown mans problems normally. Best to find someone to listen and not hold shyt in for too long

My brother did therapy for depression. He never really said if worked or not. To be honest I think he just went for the prescription.

This is a misconception. You dont have to necessarily be dealing with something traumatic to go to therapy.

You can start to see a therapist when nothing particular is wrong or traumatic.
You can even be proactive and see a therapist bedore something stressfull happens. Or just for overall personal health maintenence.

This is exactly what I’m going for. Just to have someone to talk to about the shyt I’m going through and not hold things in.

Back in my wild days, I had court ordered anger management. It actually helped a lot. I haven’t gotten into a fight since then. I learned how to control my anger, take deep breaths, woosah and walk away.

Most importantly I learned how to TALK about my feelings. I never used to, which led to me bottling up my frustrations, and then when shyt boiled over people got hurt:ld: Now I don’t hold things in anymore.

I go every other week, it just feels good to be able to get stuff off my chest. My therapist is an older Hispanic lady (assigned to me) She's pretty cool to talk to. Like breh above said, it really does feel like your brain is taking a huge dump lol
