For the future, my brehs, know that once that debt goes to collections YOU DON'T HAVE TO PAY!

That debt has been written off and then sold for pennies on the dollar. You can even buy debt yourself. Anyone can.

Then they try to use scare tactics to get you to pay.

All you have to do is send a certified letter to the debt collector requesting VERIFICATION of the debt, something that bares your SIGNATURE. They will never have this documentation and thus the debt is invalid. They have 30 days to respond or remove the item from your CR.

If you ask them to stop calling your home, celly, or job and they do then you can sue them for $1000 and still get the debt removed cleanly.

We don't negotiate with debt collectors, brehs.

You send out custom letters?

The letter is simple. See my post above. All the letter has to say is you want proof that you owe the debt in the form of a promissory note. That's your agreement to pay the debt. But you never agreed to pay a debt collector anything. You have no contract with them.

If the debt has been bought more than once and passed through more than one agency, you are guaranteed to have it removed if you ask them for verification. If they don't comply you can sue them.

Threw my student master card debt in the bushes after university. They tried but couldn't find me... there is a 6 year limitation before it wipes off your credit. I don't have it on my history no more. I never acknowledged the debt and didn't pay once after I stopped... did the same to my old phone company. I had bad credit for a while but was also living off cash @ the time.

:yeshrug:

how you manage this?

Good stuff, I used to send out letters to the bureau's and got a good bit of my derogatory items removed but I still got a couple of stubborn ones on my Transunion that need to go :to: I think I may go this route.

Have you encountered any debt collectors that forced you to take legal action for noncompliance?

It's automatic... Derogatory items will fall off your credit reports after a certain amount of years.

well this is the second different collection agency with this specific account. I never heard of these people and have never talked to them.

Should I still send the letter out? Just got the summons today in the mail.

Yea I know about the part that its removed but how did he "hide" for 6 years till the statutes of limitations were up. Like did he do what other dude did and change the ss on his work or have the wrong info on the initial loan, etc?

So, I send the letter to Sallie Mae or to the Collection Agency they claim to have sold it to?
