My moms an alcoholic. Has been my whole life. She'll probably die with a can of beer in her hand.
:mjcry:

I've always despised and hated her for it, but now that I'm educated on addiction and alcoholism, I feel nothing but sadness and compassion for her.

The leader of the American drug policy made this statement in 2012, which was highlighted in the documentary "The Anonymous People"

“We know from the research that’s conducted by some of the world’s leading neuroscientists that drug addiction — it’s not a moral failing on the part of the individual. It’s a chronic disease of the brain and it can be treated. This isn’t my opinion and it’s not a political statement. It’s not really open to debate because the evidence is clear, and it is unequivocal. It’s a fact borne out by decades of study and research and it is a fact that neither government nor the public can ignore.”

But ain't nobody listening though. The majority of peeps still see addicts as losers and deadbeats, which stops most of them from getting the help they need. Pretty sad, tbh.

Start here: Disease theory of alcoholism - Wikipedia and keep educating yourself. Wikipedia calls it a "theory" but that shyt is a proven fact as much as any other mental disorder we accept as truth.

Nah but my dad used to smoke alot of weed and it was so embarrassing. It made me lose some respect for him when I was younger. He used to talk to me kind of rough and one day I ended up slapping the fukk out of him and grabbing him by the neck in the middle of the mall.

After that episode we started attending counseling together and I told him that I was uncomfortable with him smoking weed all the time and we discussed other sh1t. After that I never seen him smoke again. Addiction is tough on the family...

You need to be beaten to within an inch of your life.

He’s gone now but it was fun drinking with dad on the weekends and watching football

Props breh, especially the bolded:salute:
It isn't as cut and dry as others say it is. "Just stop", "no will power", "mentally weak", etc, all that shyt.
My body grew accustomed to it before I knew it. Needed it to function. Then everything in sight got wrecked. Those withdrawals are the most frightening thing I've never imagined.

My ma lost her ma when she was 15 and gramps was always working and my 2 aunts were older so ma had to grow up in a hurry. When I was 15 the grandma I knew and the woman who was a motherly figure to ma longer than her birth mother died too. Hit ma dukes hard man. She had to grieve twice. One for grandma and one for her ma that she never fully grieved the first time:sadbron:
She had a drinking stage after that. I was a youngin runnin amok. It was all bad.
She just up and quit one day after a DUI and crashing her car.
Then I became an alcoholic in pops footsteps but she was always there for me.
Alcohol is awful.
Those who know, know.
Those who don't, underestimate it.
Some are legit allergic to it.

I got 2 years on Sept 4 :takedat:

Much love to those strugglin.
