Definitely. The caked on foundation, contouring, highlighting and extra long lashes is too much.

That's the thing; you don't have to use all that if you have decent/good skin. Luckily, puberty didn't do me too dirty, and I' haven't developed adult acne **knock on wood** so I don't have much, if any discoloration. I can use a tinted moisturizer and I'm good.Yes but I think a big portion of it is because instead of just doing your make up cute when you go out and keeping it moving we now have social media to share our techniques with. Which may not be so bad. At one point I was wearing makeup, just foundation and I didn't know I was supposed to be using a concealer and I didn't know I was supposed to set my make up so it wouldn't come off on my clothes making my collar look dirty.
I didn't have anyone to teach me. Im still somewhat clueless. And of course when I did my make up I wasn't countouring.
I can't get down with these eyebrows, weaves, wigs, and witchy poo nails people do though
unfortunately I don't have good skin. I have skin discoloration and I scar dark. I've been using BB cream around my mouth area lately. That's the thing; you don't have to use all that if you have decent/good skin. Use what you need/want; yeah, all that other stuff is available, but if you shouldn't feel pressured to use it just because you're "supposed" to.
Have you thought about doing a series of chemical peels to get rid of the discoloration? My sister had some serious hormonal acne/discoloration as a result of her cycle being out of wack, and chemical peels have helped a lot.unfortunately I don't have good skin. Yep. We (Blacks) shouldn't do stronger peels because of a higher risk of permanent discoloration, but the milder peels, such as (low concentration) mandelic, glycolic, salicylic or Jessner's peel, done over a period of time, can work wonders.are they safe![]()
I think I'mma half to pass on that.Yep. We (Blacks) shouldn't do stronger peels because of a higher risk of permanent discoloration, but the milder peels, such as (low concentration) mandelic, glycolic, salicylic or Jessner's peel, done over a period of time, can work wonders.
I will occasionally do a peel at home whenever my texture is feeling a little off. What my sister did was have an initial consultation/session with a derm, got one treatment, then she just ordered the chemical peel solution from Makeup Artist's Choice (At Home Chemical Peels Anti Aging Acne Scars).

I like makeup. Not drag queen, full contouring and all that jazz (my face is already angular, so I don't need to contour), but I'm all about lipstick, mascara and bronzer/blush. When I'm feeling fancy, I'll throw some eyeliner on. I like looking polished, and makeup helps with that.
My hair is simple; I wear buns, bantu knot outs, and occasionally I'll wear it straight or get braids.
If chicks wanna do all that extra stuff, more power to them. It's not my cup of tea, but if it helps them feel more confident/secure, then I say go for it.
