Breathing, phrasing, pacing, how you shape your mouth, voice placement. Breathing is huge factor like with any wind instrument

the emission of the breath and your control of its energy using the muscles in your abdomen is what basically fuels your singing. A vocalist with poor breath support will generally have a lower quality instrument and a fukked technique lol

placement is equally important

train your ear - listen to singers - real singers.

and then sing, sing and keep singing.

I'd drop something but I'm having mic problems and don't need the attention from coli ladies.

I've heard people say that bouncing your jaw, like Whitney tended to do, was bad technique.

..singers used the gospel jaw for show and drama.. Nippy had excellent technical prowess. Auntie was really nuts wit it, breh! You’re right doe.. using your jaw for a artificial vibrato does nothing but distort the sound in an unpleasant way and creates a lot of unnecessary tension.

Yea, we know Whitney definitely didn't need the Gospel Jaw for her vibrato. She was a GOAT vocalist.

Yep..she used it as an illusion to make it seem like her jaw was the place where the vibrato was coming from, but it’s not.

Find your range. Listen to a lot of songs in the style you want to sing, and sing along with them.

Find where your best voice comes from. This is a rap example, but Slick Rick rhymed from the nasal palate, Nas from the back of his throat, and Pac from the pit of his stomach, which is where his power came from. You could clearly hear from what part of their body their voice came from, which gave them their trademark styles.

You'll find that certain artists you'll be able to replicate closely, and others, you can't touch.

Learn breath control.
