Word breh this is all good shyt keep grinding. Where'd you move from? i woulda moved to Cali too but there are a few film connects here in NYC so i'm ok for now.

Thanks man. Hoping to learn some good stuff from it and link up with other writers. Believe it or not I moved all the way from VA man. My wife and I sold all our furniture and a bunch of shyt, packed what we could in the car and made that drive. I quit my job as a newspaper writer and am freelancing for a dayjob.

I actually considered NY at first cuz my friend moved there for standup but the TV writing opportunities are more plentiful in LA so I had to stop scared dreaming. My friend and I are gonna write a screenplay too so hopefully I'll have that in the portfolio in addition to TV specs.

Outside of the obvious how are you liking your situation right now? Sounds like you put some hard work in. Any advice for someone like myself tryin to come up?

I do black horror movies. And I live in Raleigh NC. People sleep on Carolina's film industry, Wilmington is an hour drive away and there so many films & tv shows being shot here. I refuse to move to NY or LA unless I got a sure fire connect cuz I ain't dealing with their high cost of living out there unless some money is already in transition to my pockets.

i'm an aspiring screenwriter. For those that have been writing, have you guys been writing a lot of spec stuff or your own original material? When you write either is your hope to get it sold and turned into something or just to get your material out there for a staff job on a tv show or movie?

I am writing my own stuff right now with the goal of getting it sold.

Well my situation is still new to me breh. This is my first screenplay being optioned. They're gonna pay me to not show anyone my script while they try to get a crew together to film it and after that i'm sure they're going to want to purchase the rights from me so that's Great news. And as far as tips i can't really offer any but the stuff that sounds cliche like Grinding and marketing...To keep it real with you i wasn't even expecting this and i was about to give up, I deadass was just in JBO looking at naked bytches and shyt sidetracking myself when i got the message. But i know that hardwork pays off and i'm going to keep pushing.

I write with the intention of making my own movies and TV shows with these ideas. I feel like unless you are in NY or LA, or ATL in order for your screenwriting to be successful you have to do your own thing from start to finish. Writer, producer & director.

I didn't have an agent I have family all over LA and you get them ghetto hook ups my cousin knew somebody who knew somebody who knew somebody at Universal. Forwarded my screenplay to my cousin she had a homegirl with a way in and they read it and liked it. My screenplay was optioned which is where my money came from but it never materialized into a full movie. I came to NC in 99 from college and decided to stay because this is an untapped market for entertainment. People sleep on Wilmington and I plan to use that to my advantage.

:myman: A nikka feeling real good right about now. Just got a text about an independent producer looking to option one of my screenplays. All of my hardwork the past 5 years has paid off for a Goon:ahh:. I really would like to thank the coli for this also. Alot of you characters here helped me think from different perspectives. And overall this will just lead to more success for me.:smugfavre: Any other writers in here??? lets break bread!!!:steviej:

Good work breh :myman:

I'm personnaly an aspiring writer, been doing it "seriously" for the past 6 years, much longer on my own but then I joined a Creative Writing group here in Brussels. We just self-published a short story collection dealing with that 25-30 year old period of life where one is confronted with various choices. They are all situated in Brussels, but I think the themes are quite universal. The Meantime - Nine short stories from brussels https://www.facebook.com/ninestoriesfrombrussels We've been getting some good reviews :obama:

My style is mostly (very) short stories, mostly "magical realism" or surrealistic stuff with a touch of oniric. Think Saramogo, Garcia Marquez with a touch of Kundera. I need to start shopping that stuff around tho, I'm lazy as fukk:snoop:

I'm a horror and suspense buff. :ahh:

I have masterpieces in my head, just not the time to complete them. :noah:

Bravo, on your gumption. :salute:

My proudest writing moments:

In elementary, writing the class play based off the movie Clue.
All my Health Articles/NYC stories that got published in college.

Being a writer for a music magazine, tv show; or a Horror novelist (in the vein of R.L.Stine) was my dream. :to:

But Life's A bytch :deadrose:
