word, current curriculum is much closer to the 'truth" than the Coli revolutionaries would like to believe. It all depends on if the teacher knows their shyt or not.

im no revolutionary, but current curriculum tells the truth, just not the whole truth :comeon:

have you read Lies My Teacher Told Me?

I have, good read. But still, he's referencing the following texts:

The American Adventure (1975)
American Adventures (1987)
American History (1982)
The American Pageant (1991)
The American Tradition (1984)
The American Way (1979)
The Challenge of Freedom (1990)
Discovering American History (1974)
Land of Promise (1983)
Life and Liberty (1984)
Triumph of the American Nation (1986)
The United States: A History of the Republic (1991)

1991 is the most modern. Since then quite a bit has changed. Still not perfect, but you need to keep in mind that American public schools are funded by the American Government, and are therefor a a functionary of the government. Every country teacher their owns story in a particular way :yeshrug:

i think the revised version has updated texts

very true that the government is gonna push their own agenda :ld:

but i don't think their agenda reaches far enough along the racial spectrum that America is

:leon:, Ill have to check for the updated version. Would be interesting to see that dude's take.

Oh, and I agree with the bolded, but just like all racial issues in America, some progress has been made. Obviously much more is needed.

I substitute from time to time. Like one of the posters said you can see the students who gonna end up being nothing and the ones who have a bright future.

The Comfort Zone
Well, i would reccomend pick a field and stick to it. We dont exactly make enough money to be stacking bachelors degrees :yeshrug:

I teach in the burbs, pretty mixed racially, but mostly middle class with some outliers on both sides.

As far a tailoring material to the students...as much as I can. The government is putting such a large hand into public education that they dictate the general content as well as the skills they deem important (mostly literacy these days).

With history you need to make it realistic and connect it to their lives otherwise you got no chance of getting through to some of em.

This this this.

I love teaching modern world history (I have special ed AND regular ed students). :blessed: Gotta make them realize that history is pretty much the same shyt happening over and over. Unfortunately, I'm about to throw city teaching in the bushes. Too much bullshyt outside of the classroom involved.

Towlie, I think I understand why you asked me what you did now.
