anyone have one of these cars that you have to pull the fukkin bumper off to change the headlight?

i have a cadillac DTS, and i have to pay 300 labor for a local guy to swap the headlights. Cadillac wanted 300 to change out just 1 light :mjlol:

whoever designed this fukkin car should be burned at the stake

My Acura TL is like that :snoop:

Took me most of the afternoon to pull off the bumper to replace the igniter & headlight bulb. Such a stupid fukking design

And dawg just do that shyt yourself. I’m sure it’s videos on YouTube and on Cadillac forums for that specific repair. That’s what I did, I have no formal mechanic training

I have a DTS. You can literally do it yourself if you've got some time. I'll say this though: replace all the bulbs in both headlights if you're going to do it though.

You can literally have the bumper off in less than 20 minutes (might take that long if you're using hand tools only and no power tools).

One thing you need to be aware of: ALL Northstar engines leak oil; primarily from two places: the oil pan of gasket (it's an actual physical gasket, and the engine split case). It's a two piece engine block with sealant in the middle of the two halves. The sealant eventually gets hard from the hot and cold cycling of the engine and causes an oil leak.

The upper engine mount rubber likes to tear (it's on the left side of the car near the coolant reservoir and shaped like a dog bone). You'll know it's torn completely if you hear a loud knock or clunk putting it in gear or accelerating from a stop. Easy to fix, it's two bolts.

Also, batteries last a REALLY long time in that car because it's under the rear seat and protected from the elements. But when that battery dies, it's DEAD. The only other thing that happens once in a blue moon is the shift interlock will exit the chat, which won't allow you to shift the car out of park. All of that stuff except the engine oil leaks are easy enough for anyone who's slightly mechanically inclined to fix. Parts aren't terribly expensive either. The engine half case repair requires the engine to be out of the car, which most people aren't going to attempt on their own.
