Stay away from MKIVs... 99.5-2006. Electrical problems and all kinds of shyt, i.e. CV joint issues, engine sludge, coil pack issues, trans issues etc.
The MkVs are a little better. Mk7s are where it's at now. You won't have the reliability issues as the older ones.
I don't care what people say, the diesels are legit.
Overall, I wouldn't fukk with VW if reliability is your concern.

MK= Mark as in Mark 1 or 2.
Basically it's the same as saying Gen 1 or Gen 2.
