Yeah, his drum patterns were beyond stupid..Before Dilla came on the scene nobody had that bounce and layering technique he had. His choice of samples and or playing live instruments are fukking 2nd to none. He could make something with Janet Jackson, and then make the grimiest shyt for Guilty Simpson or Phat Katt all while being raw. He had a gift the few posses. Madlib has it, Preemo has it, 9th used to have it. Dilla again if you study and break down the style in the drums alone will make you understand while he holds the crown.

Yeah his earlier shyt was .... But admit when my nikka found his death star .... He was unstoppable .
