I would say producers that are more comparable are DJ Premier and Large Professor cause they both have that raw hard hitting boom bap sound.
Or J Dilla vs Pete Rock cause they style is a little more soulful and smooth.

nah i love them both but premo got cerfified classics .. jdilla yea he good but he was never classed on the same tier until he had passed away
This... is actually true. I never heard of Dilla before he passed.
I did know a lot of the work Dilla did with Common witouth knowing he produced that.
So i was already a bit of a fan witouth knowing it.

Not to take anything away from Premo as he's a legend and birthed many a classic. But it's Dilla for me, i could easily spend a day just listening to his instrumentals with no rapping on. Just love the vibe and subtleties of his music

i wouldnt say his best songs are way too similar. theyre all pretty uniquePreemo's best songs are GOAT tier, but honestly, they're way too similar.
but if you said that majority of his discog is pretty similar, i could see that more
like 90 percent of them are the same drums

Nah. I found it crazy that people were putting him over Pete rock in that other thread too. No album of his is seeing center of attention as far as I'm concerned. Select beats of his I really love but I can't take a full album of his and place it up against any of my favorite producers top project.

I might even say Dilla was more talented, more Preem has made my favorite beats. Like, if I was stuck on an island with only 1 producer's catalogue, it would be Premier before it would be Dilla.
