Anybody else feel resentment towards their parents?

Nah! I love my parents, I swear! My mama had the smart idea of setting up college funds and savings for my siblings and I for when we became older (SO to my mama). My dad agreed. So, every month they would put a side a good portion of their earnings into our funds. Now, my siblings and I pretty much have had a free ride to college and some dough on the side for us to spend on whatever we want. I can't complain God has blessed me with great and hard working parents. Things could'hv been worse.

I'm from the hood, too but I have a different mind state. Setting your kids up for success is no more 'White' than being beautiful is. Why is everything good associated with them? Pisses me off.

well if you from the hood, then you know our people are thrown with more bullshyt our way, that prevents our folks from correctly situating their family.

If my folks were making 6 figures than yea, I guess I would expect them to hold it down for the kids, the reality of the situation is much more bleeker tho.

It's taboo to talk about it but damn, my parents ain't plan or nothing.

Everything I do I do without help which is fine but sucks some parents hooked their kids up.

The cold hard truth is if your parents didn't plan for you, you're pretty much fukked if you don't make it yourself.

I love my mom and dad but a lot of the shyt I'm going through now could've been avoided.

What if they didn't know any better? Like I could say my mom could have planned for my college education but she didn't even go to college because in her generation you didn't feel you had to in order to make a decent living. My father only made it to 8th grade and he had a nice paying job as a longshoreman. My brother is 10 years older than me and he's been working at his job since he was 18. I'm sure if she felt that college was my only option to success, she would have done things differently.

Exact situation I'm in right now and I'll be 20 in 2 months, suffering I know what I want to do, just don't have the money.

Don't take your parents shortcomings and accept them. Just because they failed doesn't mean you fail.

Also, take in mind that your parents could've tried their hardest and still not made it. Not all are just careless b*stards.

Nah. I love my mama (love my dad too). Sitting here wishing what my mother could've or should've done is pointless and I'm grateful for everything else she's done for me. She could've been a deadbeat mother to my sister and I, but she took care of us so I hold nothing against her.
