A few years ago wifey and I got an air mattress to use in the tent. It's a fukking game changer. We also hang a small fan from the top of the tent when we are sleeping which is great if it's hot at night.

Ice. Make sure you have enough ice to get you through or make sure there is somewhere nearby you can get ice. Some parks sell them otherwise you gotta drive to a gas station.

Learn how to package food, keeping in mind that you are going to have to open a new package and then put it back into a cooler with melting ice. You don't wanna wake up to hotdogs floating around in melted ice water. Bring ziplock bags/plastic containers, etc. to put food in after it's been opened before putting it back in the cooler.

Water. This is so important. Make sure you bring enough water with you for your needs and then double it.

Separate coolers for beverages and food.

And speaking of coolers, keep them in the shade. This will greatly extend the life of your precious ice.

Defend yourself at all times. Most fellow campers are a friendly bunch but occasionally you will run into an ass hole. Last summer wifey and I were camping at a state park, we had a nice spot with plenty of tree cover but... the campsite adjacent to us looked like a homeless camp. There were no tents, just tarp and garbage creating a mini trash city. The guy staying there had been living in the park all summer and had to move from one spot to the other to accommodate other camper's reservations.

Homie kept coming over to talk and I had to let him know that I didn't come here to listen to you blabber on about how your house burned down, you live in a park and you can't get your homies to help you move your shyt... And then he asks for a beer. I gave him one, seeing it as the price of getting him the fukk away.

Oh, and when we first got there we had no picnic table because the dude living in garbage took it and made it part of his construct. We had to get the park ranger to bring us one. I helped him get it off the truck and then he told me to keep an eye on our stuff and filled me in on that guy's story.

I got another camping story regarding fukked up people around me also camping but I don't feel like typing all that out right now.
