I'm not religious now, but growing up my grandmother and mother went to an AME church.

We moved up north and my grandmother made a few phone calls and found an AME church near us.

Just wondering if anyone's familiar with their history.

my people grew up in an AME church too back in SC, but we went to a Baptist church growing up in Texas and I used to ask my mother why but she never really had an answer

I have, but I'd like to have a discussion since I don't go to church and the people in my family who would have that knowledge have already passed away.

Richard Allen and Absalom Jones were upright men, look them up to get the founders POV
It was founded in Philly by them, if I’m not mistaken Mother Emanuel in Charleston where the shooting happened is one too many
One of Mother Emanuel’s pastors was Denmark Vesey, who led a slave revolt and was executed.

Grew up Baptist and use to visit ame churches all the time. Never knew the difference other that they seemed less uptight.
