I’m “heavy” weightlifter, obviously...and that being said I’m putting together a home gym on the 2nd floor that will have 120, 70, 50, and 25 sets of dumbbells. And resistance bands to add with the dumbbells to get increments in between those numbers and about 255 in Olympic plate dumbells, another 200 in benches with me being ~250 and lifting on the space...don’t plan on dropping shyt but as we know shyt happens :manny:

I have a spare carpeted bedroom that I’m planning to put plastic down then 3/4 plywood and then 3/4 rubber mats wall to wall.

My question is; am I adding too much weight to that area and is that enough to protect the floor? Ima try to disperse the weight out as best as I can towards the edges and wall joists, I’ve seen mfs with 1000 pound safes and shyt in their bedrooms so I think I’m good but always nice to hear from others about their experience and what they did.

What’s under the area you want to have the gym at?

the kitchen but there’s a wall in the kitchen about 18” in under the room that partially supports the second floor from my measurements without legit floor plans.

nah mfs with bedroom gun safes and shyt have more weight in a smaller area but that being said, I’m not in any rich or semi rich cac house so their experiences might be different from mine.

just a average brick house.

don’t have any space on the first floor but don’t see how that would be any different from the second unless they build houses differently floor to floor which is what I’m curious about

The only thing about a 1k lbs. safe is that it doesn't move so it's a dead load. So if you have a newer home the floors are usually rated for like 9-12 lbs of dead load per sq ft. which is like static weight and like 50 lbs per sq for a working load like when a person is moving around. All that weight is either gonna make the floor weak and sag eventually as well as cause stress cracks in the ceiling, and that's with the weight just sitting, once you start lifting it will put more load in those specific areas. Like if you step on a scale versus jumping on one. You jump on a scale and it will read the force applied to it so that 180lb body weight temporarily applies greater force without going into physics and law of motion.

in other words put that shyt on the first floor or garage.

I don’t have room in my garage, first floor or basement. I lift controlled and I’m using the floor mats + 3/4” plywood to disperse the load bearing.

The room is completely empty otherwise, I’ll only be using the 120s on bench, lawnmowers and deads..

I would think two fat 300 obese mfs fukking would be about what I’m doing and I’ve never heard them fall through the ceiling counting their bed weight too :manny:

that cracker from Sweden and probably got his house from Ikea :unimpressed:

might save you some weight on dumbbells

Had these dumbells as a kid, they always come loose and I do a lot of super sets to keep My heart rate up I don’t have time to be changing weights. Bowflex and Nordic track adjustable weights sold out until the apocalypse without their “Chinese suppliers” as I was told by sales reps so I’m SOL in them options too and probably this one as well:unimpressed:
