I went a few years ago. It was cool, but i could see the hipster influence oozing in.

Too high a percentage wasn't "us" for my taste. Look, i get loving music, but I specifically went because it was cheap and kinda for us.

I haven't showed out to one since 2014. It kind of stopped being about the crowd it was intentional for after 2014. The only way I'd go now is with a big group of friends cause of straight fukkery happens post festival with em.

I went to Afro Punk back in 2012 when I moved to NYC.

However, what I don't understand is people still commenting about how Afropunk promotes an "agenda"? Yeah, no shyt sherlock. Afropunk was always in the business of promoting alternative black lifestyles, fashion, music, art, gender, sexualities, etc. That was like the whole point. The "agenda" was to put a central focus on black subcultures that were often push to the periphery of the community. So if you're the straight, only fukk missionary, christian type, and listens to hip hop, in other words, "bland", yeah the festival ain't really geared for you.

I'm a big fan of black art so my interest in Afropunk has only been for that reason. Alternative lifestyles just comes with the territory. You're not going to get high level of creativity in the black community without it, so you get used to it. The black creative community has always been that way so it's nothing new unless you're not used to a cosmopolitan crowd.

The Comfort Zone
I’m reading Twitter, and Erykah is over an hour late, and counting. The whole festival was supposed to be over at 10, and she ain’t even hit the stage yet. I’m so glad we only bought tickets for yesterday. I wouldn’t have been able to deal with this shyt.

It ran late. Janelle's set didn't even finish until like 9 or so.

She was great.

The vast majority of people actually dress pretty "regular" but yes, there are those who are super extra with it.

:ehh:I see pictures of young black folk enjoying themselves

but that’s a crime apparently.

It was some flagrant shyt but it wasn't even that bad. They not gonna show nikkas dressed normal because the weirdo shyt gonna get more attention. More bad bytches out than anything.
