My sister does this with her child and I can honestly say she's a dumb ass.

Unless you're rich, your child is a child prodigy/actor or something and/or you have the ability to get the best home teachers or you have the time to really stay on them it's not worth it to me. My niece sits around and does nothing all day. She barely has friends & misses out on so many social events. She's in the house all the time. It's disturbing to me. Often times my sister leaves my niece with my mom and my mom (who is a retired teacher) doesn't understand it. It's disturbing.

the main problems i have with the school systems today are teaching to the test and no child left behind. when i was in school, i had awesome grades, but i wasnt good at those state tests. i dont believe that one test can measure someone's skill level. how can a teacher actually teach like that? to me, a teacher should know the work her students put in on a daily basis and if thats good enough to move to the next grade so be it. also kids need to start failing grades again .we need to stop worrying about them being embarrassed. parents and kids need to be accountable again. too much blame goes on the school. system when their kids are failing. i could see if every child was failing. but when its just your child, what is your excuse?

I was not homeschooled and I barely had any friends and did just about no social events myself.
I never had a teacher or a class that taught me how to make friends.
What are you talking about?

There's still a social aspect to school that can't be captured sitting at home all day by yourself which is what my niece does. You still had to speak with your teacher and other classmates right? You still had group projects? You still had gym or whatever other class that has you working with others. Whether you chose to have friends or not that's on you. But most normal people make friends throughout school and/or participate in some type of activities at school. Building social skills is just as important as being academically sound.

I mainly remember the teachers calling on us when they wanted us to speak and everyone else getting in trouble when they were trying to speak to each other.
Group projects were rara.
You don't have to do anything with anybody in gym. All you ever had to do was get changed.

I did homeschooling when i got kicked out of HS my Junior year. Probably the worst thing ever. I was bored out of my mind.

But did you do better with school:mjpls:? i hear what people saying about social interaction, but i kinda feel like that's somewhat passed down from your parents, you can often see ya personality in ya kid early on before they socialize with other people:patrice:....so on one hand if my daughter is anything like me which i think she might be personality wise:sadcam:,being away from people might bore her to death and send her into a depression....but on the other hand,i was easily distracted by the social shyt too....so if social shyt is going to be a distraction for ya kid,is it worth it for em to be "involved" in social shyt that really aint shyt but cool memorys when u get older:patrice:?its cool to have those experiences though, guess the best thing u can do is let ya kid go and if u see they having problems then take em out...bad thing about that is they got to experience it then u takin the social interaction away.

Nah doing home studies actually made me lazier. IMO you should just let your daughter experience school for herself.

After seeing my kids "unlearn" what I taught them at home to learn shortcuts to pass their upcoming standardized tests, i'm seriously considering it.

A problem I had with school (especially in middle and high school) was the teachers having to teach the test. Like 4-6 months was dedicated to learning how to pass this test. I'd rather my girls learn real world skills instead of how to do process of elimination and skim passages.

thank you. I hate teaching to the test. making these teachers look like robots. I don't agree with homeschooling but this teaching to the test has to stop. there are other methods of learning and teachers cant be creative anymore

It's not even so much the learning, as so much that every kid needs that socialization.
