Anybody left solid job for start up?

Got an offer at a start up. Basically would be a position I would get after working 3-4 years at my current company. The pay is the same, hours more but the upside is greater as I get significant equity into the company. However if after 1.5 years if we don't achieve set goals, the company will close. I 'm about 50/50 right now. Anybody else left for a startup, whats your experience?

i would go for it. this is your chance to move up higher than you probably would at a more established place. i never left a job for a start up per se, but i did go to a small company that moved to my area and i was the very first person they hired in my state. it was a very ghetto set up at first, but i ended up learning a lot, got promoted twice in a short time, and am now better off because of it.

Well if the pay is the same then it's definitely a good option

Its not technically a start up but has only been going for a year. Did you sign an employee contract dictating you can't leave for a certain time? The guy who had my position bolted after 3 months, so I have to stay for a year. You still with the company. If you would of stayed at your other company would you of gotten paid more after your time with your smaller company?

im no longer with them now, no contracts for duration. i started out making a little less, but ended up making more within a year.

I did... it didn't work out... but I learned soo much valuable shyt that I didn't have access to at a large Corp. So it was worth it. I started my own after that.

You may never have the taste for established corporation again.

Look at it like this, if it fails, you can apply for your next job at your new level and demand a salary that is commensurate to the new level at an established company. Basically, you get to jump a few years by taking on this new role.
