i did for quite some time..started in college and backed away once i started my family several years back...

it takes alot of sacrifice....for alot of responsiblity and accountibility.....

didn't like the idea that you find yourself doing things OUTSIDE OF THE CONTRACTUAL OBLIGATIONS...

its like taken care of a GROWN ADULT who has to be babysit......

i've done everything from submitting verses and beats for placement to taking an artist's daughter to school and paying his rent :snoop:

all that for a 15% cut

it can make u feel underapreciated and bitter..

and inspire you to do some subversive things towards your clients :demonic:

some of which i am truly not proud of

The best managers are someone you have a personal relationship with who you can trust to guide your career. Perfect example is Eric on entourage. The problem is that it’s always a gamble. I’ve managed people and put in work for them with ended up being a complete waste of time cause they were not built for the industry.

People like scooter brawn and pat (chance the rappers manager) get all this praise for being visionaries but they were just really lucky picking the right horse.

I wanted to do this for my cousin, but I just didn't think it would work. We both still young, but I don't know. I feel like I'd overstep my boundaries. Are managers normally involved with the creative process? Because that's what I started doing when he offered me the spot. Didn't accept, but I think I went through two notebooks just writing out concepts, outfits, video ideas and a full mixtape roll-out. He was with it, but I felt like a dikkhead for it.

a manager is self explanotory.....

managing the business activities of the artist by acting for his best intrests...when it comes to dealing with labels..show promoters or other artists

you basically are a facilitator....and in many cases an ADVISOR when the artist wants to engage in a certain venture....

the manager WORKS for the artist..alot of artists forget this...which is when the lines become blurred into the manager becoming a tyrant or extortionist...

a publicist on the other hand sole role is to get your name out there by any means.....usually advertising ...in the media and any outlet available

they also do damage control as it relates to the press.....like a spokesperson...so an artist don't incrimiate themselves or is portrayed in the negative light..

unlike a publicist..a manager should only gets PAID when the artist gets compensation...

therefore taking his cut for his services..traditional management fees are 15 to 20%

I see, thanks a lot for the knowledge brother. I also thought managers only get 10 percent but good to see it's more then that.

I also suppose that sometimes these roles can overlap if the artist is new and doesn't have a publicist right?

Oh, so don't managers act as publicist too for lesser known acts too sometimes? What does a manager do specifically?

@Carr I would like to hear what you had to say here as well.

I heard so too. She robbed Duke Da Gawd and Joyner Lucas as well. She a haitian and not to stereotype but they will rob from you in business like Nigerians. They some scamming mother fukkers :mjlol:
Rob Duke Da Gawd, brehs... for what, his subway card? Half a bottle of Hennessy?

Perfect example of this..watch the Karen Civil episode of “Everyday Struggle.”

I think this is my biggest thing... I have to see somebody's work ethic before even entertaining this shyt. Cause just dealing with family, I can see how this is a problem. Some of these dudes really think shyt just going to happen, and people get on without putting in work to get noticed.
