why bother having insurance on your phone? the deductible you have to pay plus the monthly payments negate its value. like if i had an iPhone 5s there's a $200 deductible to get the next phone plus $11 x 24 = $264 so a total of at least $464 to replace it. if i broke my iPhone 5s i could probably replace it for $40 more than that but if i never break it i'm not out of $264 the insurance cost. i've been using smartphones since 2009 and i've never carried insurance. in that span i broke one phone and was off contract with an available upgrade when it happened plus i traded the broken phone back into them for half what i paid for it and they didn't even know the usb port stopped working.I don't remember the exact numbers but it wasn't that simple. It was more like this.
$50(phone bill)+$30 data-$15+$27(monthly for Note 3)+$11 for the insurance=$103+taxes. My 23% discount would only apply to the $30 data charge. Which gave me about $6 off. So $97+taxes. Just wasn't worth it to me.
also you could eBay your broken phone and come out under what the insurance would cost. insurance only really helps if your phone is stolen or lost and the odds of either are happening are slim. i've never lost a cell phone in my life.
