Anyone been to the Gullah Islands?

Born and raised in the Lowcountry (Charleston SC).

The Gullah Islands are arguably the origin of Afram Culture. I went to SC last year but didn't get a chance to go to the Islands. I plan to go next year and spend a week down there hopefully.

Anyone ever been whether on vacay or to visit fam? How was it?

I'm from there and the islands which were heavily our spots are becoming cac-ified.

I'm biased but it's home. Love it.

Yes. But you tend to say -Gullah Geechie or just Geechie.

Savannah/Charleston/Jacksonville tend to be the key major/mid major cities with a ton of stuff in between.

My mother's family is from the Caribbean. So I can pick up on the dialect. My father's side was from NC so I'm wondering if I have any family down there.

My roots are from South Carolina and Georgia I'm not Geechie but I bet I'm more culturally related than you.


Gullah are FBA's the same way a dude from Memphis is FBA and a dude from Detroit is FBA even though they might have some micro-cultural differences

Hey now. I agree with you but our ancestors were brought here through SC and NC as POW's.

I'm aware but that could be said about most of the south.

I find the old AA cultures need to be preserved and brought back to vitality. I have seen some of this happening in the Carolinas with alot of black people getting back into horse back riding. The 'new' urban culture overshadowed and almost buried old traditional culture.

A shame.
