Black Friday isn't a good time to buy a high end TV. in fact the best time to buy is right now through the spring. the new models just got announced at CES and they're slashing prices on the older models to make way for the new ones. you can get a flagship TV from Sony for almost half of what it used to retail for.

that's a 1080p set but its damn near half off. i wouldn't recommend buying a 4K set because the codecs are still being worked out and its still very early in the tech's run. getting stuck with an early model TV that was over priced and underperforms compared to the latter models would suck.

Depends on where you shop for those Black Friday deals, Samsung ran a up-to 40% week long sale during black friday, most of their TV's was included in the sale. I will agree that model changeover time is a great time to snatch up last years model at a great deal.

Been wanting to cop a new one but I really don't need it yet. Got 2 40 inch Samsungs that are 2 and 3 years old. Was proud of those joints when I copped em. Now they need a flat top. I'm going to cop a 55-60 incher next year and I'll give my old TV to my moms.

you need a controlled environment to compare. like look at this video in a dark room

happens about 56 seconds into the video they put an LED and a Plasma right next to each other in a dark room. the Plasma gets so dark it blends into the darkness. the LED due to its deficiencies in technology has clouding and flashlighting that's easy to see on an all black screen and you can tell the TV isn't producing true black.

here's a shot. i circled the Plasma.

Compare them in a room with a decent amount of light or compare all white scenes and you'll see plasma's 'dim whites'

both technologies have their advantages and disadvantages. calling either plasma or led trash in comparison to one another is pure hyperbole

Does plasma have ghosting, banding, clouding, flashlighting, hotspots, dirty screen effect, backlight bleeding? Go to AVS forums and look at any thread about even the $3000+ range LED TVs and notice the bytching about LED screen uniformity issues that are inherent to the technology. Plasma TVs have nowhere near that level of screen uniformity issues. I have a XBR HX950 which was the best LED released in 2012 and still about the best LED you can get and if I don't turn on the dynamic screen dimming the clouding looks so bad in game mode it's disgusting.

I'm talking about TVs so shytty that people buy and exchange 7 or so times trying to get an acceptable TV and settle on one because it's flaws aren't unbearable in the face that if they swap again they might get a worse TV. LED is a shyt tech.

Plasma has burn-in, image retention, phospor trails, dithering, screen glare, buzzing, dim whites, washes out in daylight, draws more power than LCD, kicks off more heat, etc. If you solely take a grab bag of the worst traits, you can make ANY display technology look bad. If you go on AVS forum, you see them complain about ALL technologies, including plasmas, such as the rising black levels on models of panasonic tvs. AVS forums nitpicks on any and everything in regards to display technologies. On neogaf's display thread, you have people complaining about getting burn in/image retention on their plasmas and other members recommending you wait 400 hours before you game on it and that you constantly run slides on it.

Neither technologly 'blows' the other away. It depends on what you are looking for out of a display. If you're going to be gaming, doing a lot of daytime viewing, or using your screen as a monitor, I recommend LED/LCD. If you have a controlled lighting environment and will be doing a lot more movie watching, sporting event watching, plasma would be a nice choice.

Get a Panasonic Plasma while you still can (VT60, or ZT60 if you have the money).

They'll be gone soon and by next year, even used ones will cost more than new ones right now.

i'm looking for when i spend $1500 on a TV i'm not keeping it on some fukk it the flaws of this one aren't as bad as the last few and the store manager is sick of me returning these things and beyond that boxing up another 55'' tv and taking it back to the store is unpleasant. i just want a uniformed screen not these globs of visible backlight that i have on the LEDs i have now. it imitates me to the point that if i didn't feel like playing the shytty LED panel build quality lottery again i'd go out and but another one but knowing it too will have clouding and other backlight issues i don't.

i didn't cheap out and but low end model TVs either (HX850, HX950, LM600) these were all good reviewed TVs and higher end ones. most of the flaws you listed with plasma (screen glare, dim whites, daylight washout) if you put the tv in a controlled environment are negligible and can be minimized. the power use is irrelevant to me as is the heat. with burn-in and image retention if you're responsible they're non-issues.

the flaws of LED TVs there's nothing you can do about them. they're inherent to the tech. so when i'm watching a dark movie and the screen has hotspots and cloudy looking patches with light leaking from the edges into the screen cause the backlight is uneven i'm stuck with that. the banding i'm stuck with as well.

I went from a 52 LCD Sharp Aquos to 2 sets a 55 inch Panasonic ST60 and a 60 inch VT60 and the plasmas are so so so much better than the LCD's that I have, when I watch sports games at a friend's house which has a newer model Samsung the comparison isn't even there, for pure picture quality the Plasma blows the modern day LED and LCD sets.

If a slight buzzing sound which you won't hear unless the TV is muted bothers you then get an LCD, if you pause a movie and leave the TV on for hours and hours on a constant basis, get an LED and if you have no curtains near your TV get an LED. Otherwise there's no reasoning for not getting the current Panasonic plasma models. Most people that come to my crib always notice how crisp the image is, makes me wanna high five my TV.

For anyone that hesitates just google the cnet reviews.

I'm Still rocking with my 32" Samsung that I bought damn near a decade ago :pachaha:

I mostly game/watch movies on my projector though. Gonna get a 70" Aquos in the next couple months and upgrade the PJ.

I stopped caring about all that extra shyt long time ago. As long as the shyt looks halfway decent and the buttons on the remote work most the time, I'm gucci :ehh:
