Anyone else feel like we’re in a drought of young black talent in hollywood?

I agree with everyone who is pointing out all the good-to-great young black actors right now. To me the talent drought isn't in acting, it's in writing. We've had a decade of mediocre black talent elevated while pumping out some of the most asinine, corny "black trauma" films and television. For every Get Out or Moonlight - great films that explored dark themes without feeling exploitive - there are 10 projects that miss the mark. Lots of fukking up the basics, like prioritizing trauma and identity over actual characterization.

Lets be real, Issa is like the definition of a DEI hire who lucked up with Insecure (everything after was ass and everything before was weirdo divested feminist shyt).

With Issa's "status" and modern technology the fact she can't make shyt work on smaller scale or even leverage international markets to make shyt shake especially a Nollywood or South African market tells me everything.

These folks just waiting for major companies to cut DEI tax write off checks. And I hate to even have to use the DEI term due to how white supremacist weaponized the term.

You should never feel comfortable using white supremacist terminology to describe us. :snoop:

Issa wasn’t a “DEI hire”. She generated her own buzz and earned her shot with Insecure and it hit. I do agree that she hasn’t lived up to the promise since then, but she got those opportunities because of her past success not because of a need to fulfill a DEI agenda.

Nah Issa is a DEI hire, the moment Trump came in and deaded that stuff/the lead up to trump 2, all these companies stopped faking the funk. The Black Creatives who are actually skilled at their craft are still getting it in, and if they did take advantage of the "lets give black people crumbs" they earned their pull during that window.

Issa was never good, Insecure was a perfect storm paired with where social media was. The post insecure shyt she did was straight ass and the pre Insecure shyt was Feminist Divestor bullshyt (this is why lotta brehs were apprehensive on Insecure when it first came out but then got won over as that shyt was not in the mix).
