My kid's mother listens to the radio in the car and she doesn't understand that it's actually worse than what I listen to (nothing but a variety of hiphop) because of the bullshyt that's in these songs. I have daughters and all they hear on the radio is shyt about fukking, drugs, and Money, whether they understand what they're listening to or not. But I still don't listen to my music with them in the car

My daughter's mother is the same way my dude...low-key a lot of this R&B is more poisonous than this rap shyt. My lil girl was 7 years old last year singing "Let me push your panties to the side"...I had to get at her mother for that shyt because I know she hears that shyt all the time riding around with her.

i think it's a matter of gender tbh, i wouldn't play profanity laden hip hop around my little sisters and cousins

but young boys can handle it, my parents played a lot of classic west coast shyt around me and i turned out fine for the most part :yeshrug:

i dont have kids but I respect and agree with you OP

kids are extremely impressionable, and I wouldn't want my kids to listen to the materialistic themes in the majority of rap songs and end up solely chasing material things in life.

I play Future in the car with my daughter and she loves it.
I am not ashamed of culture. There is Rap music for every situation. Rap music is a part of African Oral Tradition.
Especially a boy, everything in a rap song is being a black man in america. Nothing to hide

"Man what a time, to be alive
I'm drinking lean, they thought I died
I run with kidnappers, I'm talking bout kidnappers
I'm talking bout murderin n....., I'm talkin bout carjackers..."

I have to beg to differ with u, especially the world these kids are gona be going out into on their own..the glorifying of drug use scares the shyt outta me, once they're around their friends bumping shyt like that it's very hard to convince them it's not cool to sip lean until ur slumped over sleeping in public.

The majority of the music out today isn't questioning the system though, most of it is telling them to do whatever they have to do to acquire as much useless shyt as possible or they're worthless. The music that is actually questioning the system and empowering people is great it's just few and far in between.

No I do listen to underground and old school shyt, but this thread is alluding to the mainstream shyt that sends the wrong message.

bytches Aint shyt, Criminal, and Shook Ones 2 arent underground and arent exactly great songs to have young kids listening to, but that's up to u what u want ur kids to listen to, there's much worse shyt to worry about than the music they're listening to.

My daughter doesn't know what that is. And she doesn't run with kidnappers. Future lyrics don't apply to her life lol.
Kids do drugs. She will see it whether its in rap music or in the real world.

Like I said. I am not ashamed of my culture. I don't cringe at black men or anything they do. I will not raise my daughter to hate black men like the rest of america.

I was raised on rap music. I never did 90% of the shyt they said. Ive seen all 100% of it tho.

:patrice:

no one is saying anyone should be ashamed of culture.
Blues, R&B, funk, etc are still black culture.

This just comes down to the lyrics in rap music that kids don't need to be hearing.
rapping itself is perfectly fine, again its the lyrical content that I have a problem with.(around kids)

to name everything but rap music is being ashamed, and its upsetting.
every genre you named occurred before the criminalization of black men.
Rap music is aggressive because Black men are handled as criminals and taught they are the "shame" of the nation since birth. Every person. Black and white, walk around criminalizing and shaming black men. Even to children.

And you telling your child that its okay to criminalize and marginalize black male art and business is just the latest example of the attack that occurred on black men since the 80s. Its exactly the reason rap music is the way it is. Cause everyone, including you and gene simmons, thinks that all black men are thugs. and all their activity is gangster/criminal.

Yea I hear that, but if kids hear that shyt enough, when they get to a certain age they'll already have accepted it as the norm, but like I said in my last post there's far more important shyt to worry about than the music they're listening to.

And the fact that it is the world we live in, as long as people talk to them, school them on shyt, and teach them the right values, it can actually better prepare them for the world.

There's definitely shyt that kids don't need to be listening to no matter what whether it applies to their life or not though. Anything getting into rape (early Em is really all I can think of) or glorifying murder or just gratuitous violence serves no purpose and can just fukk them up mentally.
